Sonoma airsoft shooting: How To Indict An Officer in the Press

The 21 foot rule is a rough guideline,in regards to what is referred to as the "reactionary curve" or the speed to react in response to a charge with intent.
It is not absolute.

What you are calling a reactionary curve I would refer to as perception and response lag time..... and the 21-35 foot distance Rel and I have been talking about has nothing to do with a reactionary curve or P&R Lag time.... it has to do with with forward momentum carrying a shot but not dead person moving toward you and still capable of carrying on a fight.

Cops closed WAY too close.

Not sure what you are trying to say here so if my following statement is wrong forgive me....

but the converse of situations can also be true....

Non-cops far away, WAY too far.....

Just saying that sometimes things cut both ways.

Pull out a gun, shoot or be shot...

That is one perspective.

From less than 21 feet, I can pull out a knife and stab you before you can pull out your gun and shoot me.

Oh I know. I'd shoot at 20 feet if someone had a gun and turned toward me too after I'd told them to drop it/warned them/etc.

In the case of the video Rel posted, those guys closed to within maybe 5 feet of a guy with a knife who was clearly a threat and clearly disobeying orders. I don't even speak the language they were speaking and I could tell they were warning him to comply. Problem was none of them had a clear backstop for a shot (fellow officers surrounded him) and they closed far too close for others to get a good shot (without taking the shot point blank themselves, which imo would be the only reason to get that close to a non-compliant person with a knife that goddamn big).

can't blame the cops for being jumpy these days with people walking around with what may be a real gun or a toy...

things like this gets them jumpy...

The officer was in the right. Just curious, why 7 times? Wasn't the first shot sufficient?

...a neighborhood kid point a replica weapon at me several years ago. I thought I was fucked and it scared the shit out of me.
I had cowboy getup with replica revolvers and all. I used to point it at everyone. Luckily back in the 60s people were cool.

The first 5 shots was in 2 seconds. And he was still moving so the next 5 were even quicker.

BTW, no charges filed.

I've no problem with cops personally. I've had maybe 1 encounter that was bad, the rest nothing but pleasant.

Then again I'm a white middle class male. Can't say the same for my Latino friends and family. And this cop having no recourse for making a fatal mistake, only reinforces that cops play by different rules, And shit there's akways more brown kids anyway, amiright?

My dad is from east LA, and His family is still there. No one calls the cops for anything in that area. Only makes things worse. Whole areas and generations of people subjected to systemic racism Amd police brutality. Not calling the cops is s matter of survival

I actually understand that this mistake could be made, it's totally understandable. To face nothing bevause of it is the problem. At the very least he should've lost Hos job as he proved incapable of the judgement required to be an armed officer

:rofl:rofl:rofl. You're killing me here with this nonsense!

The same deputy shot himself in the leg while handcuffing a suspect and also has other complaints about drawing his pistol. 24 years and this guy is still a deputy? Something was holding him back.

DA's report released today cites fact Andy had THC in his system and was believe to have been smoking MJ about 75 mins prior to incident

Officer had prior weapons related incidents and complaints, and was an Iraqi war veteran

So there was a total of 10 shots fired, of which 7 hit the kid? Why riddle a kid with so much lead? That's the kind of stuff for real war zones against sworn enemies.

There were no charges to be filed. It'd be like filing charges against Ferrari if your 13yo takes your car for a joy ride and kills himself driving at 200mph.

We're trained to shoot until the threat is put down. 10 rounds isn't a lot in a combat shooting.

No charge

And police wonder why people hate them

It's opinions like yours.

And people wonder why the police don't want civilian review boards.
