Stock Suspension: Issues and Adjustments

It's a common problem. It's also why I think that tire is an abortion that should have never been made. I had one on my 1000rr and took it to one track day. Yuck. Streets of Willow. It was so much work to turn, so hard to turn, and such a pain to ride. That was the last time I ran that tire.

Question, and feel free to tell me if this is fucking insane.

Can I adjust the preload for each fork individually? I want to play around with them tomorrow and see if I can solve this turn in issue. Hypothetically, if the left forks preload was at 10 turns out and the right was at 12 turns out and the bike felt much better in turns, would this be an inherently bad thing to do?

They will just average. Forks are locked together and move as one unit. If one is at 10 and the other at 12 turns, it will essentially like both being at 11.

Ok well, wouldn't hurt to try I guess

Won't make any difference at all. There are several bikes out there with rebound damping in one fork and compression in the other, and also different rate springs. I run different rate springs in most of my bikes. You won't notice anything because it won't make any difference. The forks move as a unit.

Well poop, I'm out of ideas on how to 100% eradicate the issue :(

Leaning forward didn't really do anything but changing the front tire did. Jason Perez invited me over to put one of the race take offs from his 250 on my n1k. I think it's the michelin power cup 120/70, not entirely sure though. It made the bike handle a WHOLE lot better. Even though my sag numbers were good we readjusted the front forks. My front preload was actually at 8 3/4 turns, on both sides, not entirely sure how I got there and we set it to 4 turns.

Now to me (haven't tested it a lot yet) it feels just about perfect on the right side and still a little funky on the left. However, when jason rode it he said he couldn't feel a difference between each side so I'll assume my wrist injury from my crash made my left arm weaker and so it FEELS like I'm applying more pressure than I am. It could also be that maybe I'm applying pressure on my throttle hand and having to overcome that additional pressure with my left hand, but then I'd expect to feel that on my 250 as well.

I think I'll play with the rear preload a bit more but this is probably as good as its going to get, and its close enough for a noob like me

dialing out front preload has the same effect as raising the rear or leaning forward to weight the front.

Yea, felt better with the new tire, then we stopped and lowered the fork preload and that got it to where it feels good enough for me. It's certainly a lot more fun to ride now and much less work in turns
