My bike was stolen within the last week at my apt complex. Inside a gated parking structure that was key access only. The bike had a disc lock but i guess that wasnt enough to stop the thief. Its a 2003 with 61xx on the odo and there's a small crack above the rear right brake lights. The bike has Sato slipons and the right one is slightly crooked. There's also a small crack on the plastic license plate holder. The bike also has the rear passenger seat on and it also has power commander. I'm gonna contact my apt tomorrow and see if by any chance it was towed or something. I haven't checked on it for a week cuz its been raining. I'm just glad they didn't take both of my bikes :(

Locked... brake lock or chained to a post? Brake locks won't prevent the bike from being lifted up.

Either way, I"m sorry to hear that.

Sux.

Parked outside at an apartment complex you say. Apt/condo parking seems to be a very common denominator/factor in bike thefts.

What kind of lock setup was used to secure the bike? Disc lock, cable lock...?

Unfortunately these tenant key/code accessible only shared parking areas are mostly a placebo to lull folks into a false sense of security that the area is secure.

Unknown or sketchy friends of other tenants or former tenants can often easily access the 'secure' parking area.

Bummer. I'll keep an eye out since RC51's are fairly rare.

Do you know exactly HOW many miles were on the odometer? It might help when I browse CL and Ebay

Sorry about your loss. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Pictures of your bike, the plate and VIN would help us to know what to watch out for.

Know of a friend that did the same thing and the whole Bike was gone, all that was left was the the wheel chained to the car-port post. Sorry to hear for your lose but gated communities SUCK! Unless you have an enclosed garage, car-ports or underground garages are easily accesssed by tail-gaters who follow some resident inside and get to work on a shoppin' spree.

Wow, they took the wheel off the bike and hauled the rest off? :shocker That's gotta be the first time I heard that happen.

I'm sorry for you loss. Remember they are surely thinking about when they can get back & get the R1. I'd be thinking of a storage/friends garage/backyard, or whatever cuz you know they are thinking about the R1.

Best security? Get some friends for roommates and rent a BIG house w/BIG garage. Best decision I ever made/even have mod parties now sometimes.
