Thinking of later Saturday afternoon for a round of pew pew before dinner. Maybe 3ish, but the group can chime in when we are there. Still looking for a good spot. George and I found a barely adequate, at best, spot on the road up to St Johns. I'm sure there are better spots, so looking for input.

Will bring a stand, some paper targets, and a tarp to catch our shells. I like being clean and leaving no trace. Still too dry IMO for steel targets, so only paper. Be nice to have a spot with 30 yards plus and a back stop without too may rocks (sparks and richochets no bueno.) Even if we only have 15-20 yards, can have some fun. Kinda thinking pistols focus, but will have a few rifles with me, as last trip Cabrito was asking about modern sporting rifles. Bringing a few with different optic options so he can see, perhaps even try some of the newer offereings if so inclined.

Good spot would be away from any campgrounds, not shooting over a trail, road, or water and a rise or hill as back stop. Easy to get to with my 4runner a bonus.

Have you guys tried this area about 4 miles away? It's on the way to St. Johns, but you to right after the North Fork Campground and there is a field with a picknick table. This is where I've gone to Pew Pew a few times. I walked up there last month and there is a big tree down right before you enter the clearing. We could remove it or leave it.
On the maps it shows a road that dead ends a few miles up, but it's been heavily overgrown for years, and more so now.

On a funny note, had dinner with Gwynn in Lakeport tonight. Explained how I was nearly all packed up and ready for an early am departure for Stonybarf tomorrow am. Thankfully she is better with dates than I, as I would be sitting around the Grey Pine campground wondering where everyone is. :loser

Too funny! I can relate. I was the kid that would show up at school on a Monday morning all rearing to go only to find the place devoid of all humans. I never got the memo that it was a holiday. loser-twister.gif

As per my usual MO I'll be arriving a few days early, and staying a day or two (or...) after.
If not into Grey Pines, then probably Fouts Campground (next right after Grey Pine) until Grey Pine empties.

National Weather Service says upper 80's and 90's thru next week into Saturday with lows in low 60's to high 50's. Pleasant.

I'm at Grey Pine.
The head Ranger (Les I believe it was) said he didn't mind if I stayed here yill the group arrives Thursday. Cool! No, I mean it was very nice when I arrived. 69 degrees currently at 8:30.

Im shooting for a Thursday before dark arrival. But I’ve said that before…… we’ll see how it pans out. 🤣

I packed my heated jacket just in case.. I think it's always at least 10 degrees hotter and colder than the forecasts.
 
We won't be there this year. Price of fuel is a bit to much I don't want to pay $ 300.00 bucks for Diesel and another $75.00 for gas :cry:
