Or run or bike or go with your mobile phone...
There seems to be some places I need to explore...

Strava is great if you're a bicyclist or runner. For a motorcyclist? Probably not as useful since it's going to highlight roads (and mountain bike trails) where you're likely to find lots of bicycle and pedestrian traffic...

I find Strava to be very useful to keep track of my exercise, which is either walking or riding a bicycle. Haven't really bothered on my motorcycle - that's what my GPS unit is for.

Apparantly we share everything with everyone...
Wired:

"THE STRAVA HEAT MAP AND THE END OF SECRETS"
https://www.wired.com/story/strava-heat-map-military-bases-fitness-trackers-privacy/

When the NSA moto portal opens online we'll be able to see it all - where riders go, what kind of fuel they buy, how much their insurance is, their driving records, medical and employment history...oh wait, that's for business and government, not the peeps. Privacy is so yesterday. Vrooom vroom... :ride

Privacy is so yesterday.

Privacy is also so selfish.

I can't believe in this day and age that anybody could be so spoiled-rotten selfish as to want to keep private anything at all about themselves that our cherished global companies might use to increase their profits. How selfish is that? Sure, we expect that kind of selfishness from the privileged spolled-rotten offspring of the wealty (republican presidents), but not from common everyday good people.

That's hilarious. I can't believe soldiers would keep their fit bits, or whatever, connected to Strava while out on a patrol.

from what ive heard, it was more strava's fault than the soldiers. even if your recorded activities are kept private, strava still retains the rights to use your data for their heatmaps and you cant opt out of that. if they have a secret base in a country that strava isnt used, and then all of a sudden there is a ton of activity in a centralized area, of course its going to raise alarms with those countries.

I use strava regularly. its a great tool for training and comparing your efforts with other people. the heatmaps are also super useful for finding popular cycling routes in an area that you might not be familiar with. it sucks that this little hiccup put people's lives at risk and there is probably going to be changes to how they do things.

You can opt out of heatmap in your privacy settings. That heatmaps thing also does not show activities marked private.

The bulk of soldiers are under-educated 19-23 year old boys.
What do you expect?

They also have to wear reflective belts while on duty inside the FOB's. Our military is only staffed by the best and brightest. :laughing

We should give these kids every bit of support we can, eh? It it is sad that folks are getting blown up regularly to defend our... capitalism? I dunno.

It sucks to have few options in career choices...
