My next bike will be a supermoto, and I've been doing a fair bit of research to nab the right one. I keep flip-flopping on what "type" of supermoto I want, and I ended up with a chart of them so that I can keep track of what's what.

http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AmaDP7onnUi-dHp1WThRdjhWc1J1bjZHWjlQc2FJaGc&hl=en

These only include bikes that are street-legal supermotos from the factory. I'm not interested in tracking the bike (yet). The blue bikes are "street" supermotos that have ~3000/6000mi oil/valve intervals, and the yellow bikes are "race" supermotos with a 500/1000mi oil/valve intervals (on the street).

I thought it might help folks. The question of which one is what comes up pretty often. I'm not too concerned with 100% accuracy...There's more to a bike than numbers, but it helps keep them in perspective. Corrections and additions welcome...I gleaned this crap from a bunch of googling.

One addition I noticed immediately: Husky SM610. Otherwise its a good start :D I really should do some more research on the 690SM. I figured they would be in between the 510 and 610 as far as maintenance goes but you've got it listed as a street bike. Interesting...

the KTMs that you missed:
690SMC - considerably lighter than 690SM
690SMR - very similar to 690SM

You could also toss in the 625SMC if you're looking at used bikes.

you're ignoring some of the best SMs out there (price. reliability, aftermarket support, trickness) if are only looking at what the factory decided to offer.

my biased opinion....

KTM has me boggled. What are the different categories?? I understand the 625 SMC is the precursor to the 690, but I couldn't really tell the application for SMR vs SMC vs "Supermoto". Which are street-legal? Which have oil intervals measured in miles instead of hours?

I'm not not in the market for a DRZ, but its spot in my garage is currently being taken up by a 916 and/or unemployment.

I don't want to put myself in a position to have my plates taken by California, so that rules out the motocross bikes. With them out, any other dual-sport conversion ain't worth the time/money...

All 690s are street legal and have the same engine/maintenance interval. There may be minor differences in cams/airbox/exhaust for slightly different power output/delivery, but I don't remember the details.

enduro = dirt version
SMC = enduro frame with tard suspension/wheels/tires/etc

SM (aka Supermoto) = somewhere between street and tard
SMR (aka Supermoto R) = upgraded SM (lighter wheels, different color frame)

Duke = street

I don't believe KTM currently offers any racetards in the US, street legal or otherwise.

SM/SMR/Duke same basic bike, different plastic/muffler

SMC/Enduro same basic bike, different wheels

no 450/525/530 EXC with hard parts kit?

duke II?

KTM has nine supermoto possibilities...all ugly :twofinger...It'll have to make do with three for now...

SM610

On the Husky 610SM, for 2008 and later they are 55hp and fuel injected. Can be had new for $1k under that price I paid 6600 at the dealer. The 2008 I mean, haven't seen a 2009.

I'm making the somewhat arbitrary decision that anything over 350 pounds isn't a supermoto, or at the very least, is too much of a pig for me to care.

The Hypermotard in particular is more of a high-riding standard bike than it is the streetable SXV that I hoped it was.

Just pick up a cheap drz or something to see if you even like it.I've seen some good deals on CL lately.

dood, the whole lose-the-plate thing is so 2004.
Any bike that's been registered for over a year in cali isn't a scam, and there are a ton out there.

What was your out the door price?

Great chart man:thumbup

I would vote for a top speed column also.

I have ridden a newer dr650 and a husky 510. I think the other dirtbikes i have ridden don't count here.
Both were torquey but felt kind of small.:| The 510 was pretty nice... great suspension and brakes I would probably have liked a larger(size of frame) 610 better.

According to your specs
I think the KTM looks best and I like em big and ugly:teeth ... I have always wanted a Duke II

What models are you leaning towards?
