Struck by flying objects

I had a Camaro drop a piece off his tranny. Don't know what it was but it was big, metal, about the size of half a shoebox. Watched it bounce toward me...swerved at the last minute and it came down right on top of my right foot on the footpeg. Hurt like a mother. May have broken a bone. never got it checked out...

Water bottle struck my foot while I was going 70+ on the highway. I ride with full boots now.

Large (about 2' long) piece of delaminated rubber from a truck tire hit my fairing, helmet, and shoulder. At first I thought it was a bird, but I could smell the burning rubber smell. Biggest impact was to my shoulder. Felt like someone hit me with a baseball bat.

It was my own fault and a good reminder to not follow too closely. I was about 2-3 car lengths behind a Crown Vic that kicked it up from the road while we were traveling approximately 70. At that speed and distance there was no time to react. Lucky for me no real injuries or bike damage. Lesson learned.

I forgot to mention the runaway trailer, with a hot tub/spa, full of water I was following on I80 near Hilltop
...it broke loose from the back of a Ford Explorer.
No danger to me as I quickly fell back in traffic and watched it careen across 3 lanes then tear through a cyclone fence and take out another Explorer on the frontage road.
Quite a spectacle.

The other day was riding 2up with my girl and got hit by a rock square on my chest, in the only little tiny triangle of exposed skin. It burned like a mofo and I thought "damn so that's what it feels like to be hit by a rock at 45mph." Continued on my merry way and it just kept burning. I thought, maybe it just struck harder than I thought? Maybe it's like, lodged in there? Maybe I'm bleeding and my shirt is irritating the wound?

So finally we pull into a gas station and I get my girl to check it out. I see her lose her shit in her helmet, it was comical, she starts waving her hands around freaking out, I'm thinking oh shit I'm bleeding horribly or something. Nope, she opens up my jacket and a wasp flies out.

Well there's the deer and turkeys and stuff but sometimes it gets weird....

Going over 17 the car in front of me hit a deer and hit it hard. Traffic is locked and as the deer comes out from under the car it's in chunks and pieces. Bits of fur and guts flying around. One thing to play dodge with another animal but very odd experience dodging chewed up bits coming after you. Rode it out washed it off later. Able to ride over the big chunks thankfully.

Several bee strikes, quite a few stings, last time was a wasp last year into the neck, got me at least 4 times before I smashed it,I used to be allergic, but apparently I've gotten over it, nothing happened other than some hot lumps on my neck.

A bird in the hand, drew blood, through heavy gloves.

Years ago at Clear Creek, I was on a Yz465, my old riding buddy was on a 490, and I see a rock, maybe 2 1/2, 3 inches in diameter, come off his rear tire, in super slo-mo, had some rotation to it, and I watched it come up, over my bars and right into the center of my chest. I had to stop, go "Owwwwwwwwwwww" in my helmet, try not to cry (I might have, a little), then had no choice but to take off and haul ass and ride it off, because Momma didn't raise no pussy. It hurt like a sonofabitch.

Around 2006, while stationed in the midwest, I was driving down the interstate and someone within a car decided to chuck a dildo out their window... nothing is more degrading then seeing a large rubber dildo, stunned at what the hell it was, end up hitting you in the helmet. I wasn't even mad...just shocked at what the hell just happened.. :twofinger

SHUT. UP.

What color was it? Was it on? Hahaha.... How did that even happen? Was there a fight? OMG...

The biggest thing I have been struck by is a roof tile. Frickin' thing came out of no where and was so hard and sharp, right above my boot / near my knee, I kept moving my toes to make sure they were working and it didn't sever an artery. That was scary. I got home and had a big red mark which turned into a bruise.

I am glad the OP stayed safe. Scary crap flying around out there. Crap also falls off of trucks. I try to stay away from loaded down trucks that look like they have just a piece of dental floss holding everything together.

Plenty of bees and small road debris but nothing life threatening. But there's lots of crap on the road that's just lying there waiting to be run over or thrown into the air.

In the car yes: biggest was crash shrapnel flying over the center divide on 101 SB: a full headlight assembly from a Camery or some such came smashing into the front of my car. At the very least it would have knocked me of the moto.

If you want to hunt, but dont have the stomach for guns, take a ride up Mines Rd.

I have been hit by 2-4 birds on my last 5 or so runs up there. One of them dinged me off the head...another hit my fairing below the windscreen and cracked it.

I've been hit by decent sized hail up there as well, fun times, tends to sting the face if you have your visor up for visibility.

I have also been hit by decent sized rocks, a piece of a car when there was an accident in front of me (ouch) and windshield washer fluid

I have heard of people getting speared by sticks, there is some footage on youtube if you have the stomach for it. I'll pass haha

...Yesterday on my way to work at 5 am cruising about 75mph in the fast lane I was struck by something big and heavy...

Was it a Drone? Since there have been a rash of supposed drone flying all over the air and nearly hitting planes and all.

:teeth

Ok first off I'm a long time commuter, thousands of miles under my wheels over the past 25yrs of commuting to San Francisco from east bay and now to San Carlos. Yesterday on my way to work at 5 am cruising about 75mph in the fast lane I was struck by something big and heavy. I presume it was kicked up by another vehicle and dropped down on me because I never saw it coming. It hit the front of my Honda St1100 windshield breaking the tabs and ripping the screws out and tearing my Lamar lip windfoil off then striking my helmet and tearing my visor off. It hit me so hard I almost lost consciousness for a second WTF was my first thought I slowed down regained my bearings and after checking everything making sure it was safe continued to work needless to say my neck and back are a little stiff this morning. Just curious of other stories similar to mine, I've been hit by smaller objects but nothing quite this heavy and hard before, ride safe fellow barfers.

Glad you got through OK, beware the Dragon........................fly! They feel like a rock, especially to the face when your face shield is up, then they crawl all over your face while you panick stop because their not even hurt.

I also remember the story about the folks throwing rocks down onto the roadway at riders up in that area a few years back.

I don't think mine was malicious, but a dozen years ago I got clarted by SOMETHING on the helmet that connected with enough force that I felt it in my neck - definitely something that, without a helmet would have de-biked me, at highway speeds.

I also saw a small car once kick up a rock that took out the side window of the mini-van beside him, and proceeded to ride through a small shower of safety glass. I stopped to help the guy in the van - who pulled over when his window exploded for no reason, helped him remove the rest of the window (I was all geared up) while he calmed down the kid strapped into the car seat in back (unharmed).

It was impressive how fast I dove for the cover of my speedometer though.

About month ago hit a small bird with my shoulder. Was at 40mph but still felt hard hit.

Few years ago was riding with open helmet and got struck by bee. That SOB got stuck between helmet and cheek and bit me. Very unpleasant, especially when you're riding and trying to shake it out of helmet on highway.

In 2015 wife was driving her VW Jetta with our daughter sitting in the back on 580 near San Ramon when car was hit by plumbing pipe to front bumper and then penetrated windscreen and got stuck. Very lucky that no one got hurt. Car was totaled.

in 2010 I took my family on the road trip driving brand new Ford Fusion Hybrid (500 miles on odometer). Around midnight I struck huge moose at 70mph. Car was totaled and thankfully no one got hurt (other then moose).

Oh, one time when I was on my bicycle some jerk threw a full (open) can of coke at me. On my bike!!! That was weird and unwarranted. I still wonder about that. People can be dicks.

even a little black bird going fast the opposite way as you can hit very very hard.
i have struck a couple small birds and it can knock you for a loop. bigger birds can go through a car/trucks windshield.
even at lower than 30 mph a small turkey can take out the grill of a pu truck. :afm199

.

Turkey vulture having some road kill in the middle of the lane, guess he was hungry as he ignored me - took off as I got close. I swerved right - but he flew right into my path and killed himself between the bottom of the fairing and the front fender. Feathers went everywhere and had to stop to pull his dead ass out of the bike.

Back in Illinois there are "Junebugs", about the size of a nickel with hard shells. You don't night ride without a full-face and long pants. They hurt!

Same thing happened to me on CVR coming around a right handed except my bird gained enough altitude and I took it in the right shoulder/chest,almost knocked me off the bike but I held on with my left hand.
Had feathers up inside my helmet, felt like someone threw a frozen turkey at me at 40 mph!
I've had bee hits on my neck, eyebrow ,thigh (when I used to wear jeans) ,the eyebrow was the worst.I had my visor open and it hit right above my sunglasses and stung me,I looked like a cro-magnon man from the swelling.:thumbup
The worst is bug hits on the chin bar vent when open and the bug juice flys inside and hits you in the mouth.:laughing
