SUN 3/11 Lake Barryessa/Knoxville/Rayhouse Rd.

Proposed Rt. Same meet up place: Suisun Valley Rd. to CA-121 to CA-128 to Rd-89 to CA-16 (Fuel up at Cache Creek Casino: Backup meeting point) to Cache Creek to Rd. 40 to Morgan Valley Rd to Knoxville OHV to Knoxville Beeryessa Rd. to CA-128 to CA-121 back to Start point on I-80.

That's an awesome idea. I'm down!

Sid you're the route planner: Let's do it! on 4/8

other than the 2nd Sunday of the month ride; I'll be in:
Death Valley for WARPED VIII (4/13-15).

BTW - Thanks to Paul AKA ridepjride and his friends for hauling rodr out of the ditch while Banjoboy was getting help.

Looks like a great ride - count me in for the 4//8 ride :thumbup.

What is WARPED, and where in DV is it being held? A bunch of us will be on a DV ride that same wknd (we are staying in Beatty just across the boarder in NV).

And Banjoboy wasn't getting help, he was getting a cheeseburger :twofinger
All joking aside I'm glad Rod and his wee were aokay, and Andy made it back to SR okay, albeit a bit oily...:wtf

I take it most of you don't have any family obligations for Easter Sunday?

Hmmm! Bill's got a good point (I am a dedicated family man)! :2cents Maybe we be good Christians and move it to Saturday 4/7... no worries; Let's put it out there... Sid?

Anyone for Alaska early September?

WARPED VIII out in Seqouia NF, and I'm making a run through Olancha Dunes and Owens Dry lake bed on the way to Panamint (100+ brews) before hitting Death Valley and Titus Canyon. Here are the details to WARPED VIII: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=749889 and the route a few of us riders from the Bay Area are taking to get to WARPED VIII: http://advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=17988593&postcount=622

Anyone interested?

A few Bay area ADV riders are planning on riding to:

Western Adventure Rider Party and Endurance Drinking Event (WARPED VIII), April 13 through 15 in Sequoia NF and Lake Isabella: with Saturday April 14 run through Death Valley:

430 mi. R/T (9.5 hrs.) Death Valley Refuel/Water break at Panamint Springs and Stovepipe Wells Village . Proposed Route: http://g.co/maps/vmdht Contingency stop: Beatty.

Route is good for ADV bikes: Hard slab and n00b skill level off pavement. Ride Sunrise to Sunset, back for SAT dinner.

or

A shorter 284 mile R/T ride (5.25 hrs): Kernville (WARPED VIII) to Olancha Dunes (See KTM Trail ride ) and Owens Dry Lake to Paramint Springs for Refuel (Too bad we can't sample the brew and ride back). Route: http://g.co/maps/gxun9

I suspect the next question is 'What's going on up in Mendocino National Forest in May?" so here are the links:

Very tentatively in pending deets and such. It might be a perfect time for me to go on a couple week adventure. I'm open to going in any direction...except for west...because its water...and too far east because then its boring.

Thank you Bill for mad camera (and steady riding) skills. For Bill's efforts beyond the call of duty, I highly recommend that Bill has the honor of selecting the day in April for our next ride so it does not interfere with your Easter plans. Sid picks the route; Bill picks the day in April.

That was an awesome video! Watching Alex with a passenger and a topcase ride the jeep trail from lower camp to the Knoxville OHV north entrance is just motivating. Plus Bill caught Dean on the Motard, a shot of Dan on the Triumph Bonneville; and Sid on the KTM 990. Just to keep Zach calm, Bill got him and Sean at the beginning: "There is Proof of Life".

:shhh
It's kinda hard go'in 'round right hand corners when the right side of yer tyre's covered in oil. But the scariest part wuz on the Oakville grade in the dark and see'in a deer right next to me on the road just stand'in there watch'in me ride by inches from him/her/it?
The deer's think'in; "hey, that must be the banjoboy covered in oil, riding at night with a tinted visor. No one else is that dumb!" :rofl

Videos from a V-strom and a passenger

Hello everyone,
Sorry it took me so long to join and post, but we decided to go visit my Aunt in Lakeport and then stopped by the Twin Pines Casino in Middletown after the ride ended. So we got in real late on Sunday and I had to be up for work real early on Monday. Sorry about the sound quality, the camera I have, a Tachyon MicroHD, just doesn't have the sound and video quality like a GoPro, so I just have to work with what I have until I can afford a GoPro. We were real sore after this ride and I found that that I was at the edge of my limits in difficulty having a passenger. We probably won't try anything like this again if it's as difficult as Route 40 was. The main problem was when it started getting muddy I still had good traction at the rear wheel with the extra weight but the front tire acted more like a ski than a tire, and so many times I had to just keep my front tire in a rut to make sure that I continued going the direction that I wanted to go in, which was quite a scary feeling. Anyways, here is the uploaded videos:

Thanks. Glad you liked it. And yeah 4/7 works better than Easter Sunday for me at least.

Bill has spoken! :Bap NEXT ADV Ride "The Bass Ackward Way Around" Saturday April 7, 2012. Meetup @ 8:45 Starbucks off I-80 Exit 41 (Suisun Valley Rd.)

I misunderstood Sid on the Route: So... same Meet-up place and Route all the way to Cache Creek, the twist? We refuel at Cache Creek Casino if necessary, turn back and retrace our route back to the Meet-up point instead of messing with CA-16 and the I-505!

Yes, Very nice! You like?

Not bad: Sid's modified route will have options for anyone to break off at Morgan Valley Rd. or at CA-16...

The stud award definitely goes to Alex manhandling a V-Strom with Sabrina on pillion, a top case, and filiming the whole ride! :hail Now that's a Manly MAN!

Thank you very much for the complements, I am very flattered! However, with many years of dirt-bike and dual purpose riding experience, I think a lot of the credit goes to just knowing what lines to pick and what the safest speeds are for the conditions, and I believe that it's also a testament to the capabilities of the V-strom as well.

I did compare the 2 videos of me and Rod and the time stamps, and I was at the same spot that he dropped his bike 25% sooner than he was, starting from the top of the hill, and I was dealing with more weight and worse road conditions. So, in my opinion, I believe that Rod should try going a little faster when riding off-road. Sometimes a little more momentum will keep the bike going the same direction more easily and can work in your favor.

That seems to be the unanimous consensus! And certainly a memorable lesson for me.

Thanks for taking the time to do that comparison. It really underscores this conclusion.

Rod, thank you for posting on both BARF and the ADVrider Face plant thread. The content of the threads are of tremendous value for any rider learning how to ride their ADV bike in the dirt, or thinking about exploring off the beaten path (ie. ride with a buddy, have a tow rope, and good comms if you can get a cell tower signal).

I've invited Paul and his crew of Good Samaritans to ride with us next April 7th. I hope you, Andy, Greg, and Terry can ride with us. It'll be fun.

Your welcome and I hope you are not still hurting too much from your fall. Videos can be misleading and don't tend to convey how much it hurts to have a fall like you had, protective gear or not. I wrecked my V-strom at 15mph last year on 4th of July and broke my arm and my wife broke her foot.

Too bad I work on Saturdays fellas. Would love to still plan out a route for you guys. Damn work has me by the balls. If you change your date Im in.:(
