I just purchased supermoto wheels for the CRF and want to visit a go cart track and do some testing. I live in Sacratomato but willing to drive up to 2 hours. Has anyone got the 411?

Picture added for fun.

Thank you,

Shasta Supermoto Club in Redding has fantastic track. Pretty big and they don't always run the dirt section which makes it fun for the mini road racers too. And bring your dirt wheels. There's a brand new MX track next door.

Gonna check this out, THANK you for the tip.

I think the likelihood I'll be doing mid day track side wheels swaps is close to zero. Maybe after I've done it a few times it will be no big deal, but wheel swap requires removal or reinstallation of front brake caliper adaptor, chain swap, front fork height adjustment, and likely an assortment of small details I'm not considering...

Sonoma kart track is my preferred venue. They run moto-only days most Mondays.

Here's what Redding is like in one of it's configurations

Here is what Simraceway is like

If you are planning to hit the track you will need sliders. Specifically axle or swingarm sliders for the front and rear. Foot peg sliders and bar ends or handguards. You'll also need a catch can if you bike might leak something if you crash it, like a coolant catchcan or fuel. Depends on your bike.

Cool stuff, that track looks super fun, if a little tight for a 450. Thank you for posting. The dirt section is pretty long. I ordered the full monty slider kit from Warp9, but there's no telling when that stuff will come in. Thanks for the tip on the catch can, because I was thinking "its fuel injected, what's going to leak?" but as you pointed out there is a radiator overflow I'll need to contain when I crash...

See you out there soon.

I rode my KTM 450 at the Redding track. Depending on how they configure it, it's plenty big for these bikes. The Pro races use a really long dirt section with 4 tabletop jumps Big fun

The Pro/Experts get around it just fine.

Also another tip is I see you have new tires there, make sure they're scrubbed in before you hit the track or you'll be on your azz, ask me how I know =P

Chris, I remember you from the ZRXOA board. Didn't you race with WSMC years ago?

I retired from Supermoto racing a few years back so my info might be out of date.

The kart track at Prairie City (and some other facilities at the park) are leased to clubs or businesses. The club renting the kart track may not allow motorcycles due to their insurance or just being fully booked with karting activity. That has been the case historically. Some vendors have been more moto-friendly than others. Its really nothing to do with a pro or anti moto bias, just the popularity of karting and/or changing insurance regulations. Thats why SupermotoUSA doesn't race there very often.

I only raced at Redding once but loved it. Really fun layout and I know its been repaved since I was there so its even better now.

Sonoma is a great facility with several excellent track layout options for pavement practice. The surface is good but the asphalt is very sensitive to weather conditions. Full dry is great, a little moisture and it's like ice. Also, during winter months some parts of the track are in the shadow of the hills late in the afternoon which causes track temperature in those shadows to drop very quickly. It's like a light switch how fast it changes.

Old-man-shakes-fist-at-cloud-warnings aside, Supermoto track days are ridiculous fun. Have a good time.

Thanks for dropping the knowledge Steve, Redding and Dixon are on the top of my list. Prarie City would be awesome, its like 30 minutes from my house, but I don't think they have any open practice days for SM... Are you still up for a SM track day?

I rode the Shasta track in Redding last month and I agree it's pretty nice. There is a long enough straight section that you can get to speed, even though I was probably the slowest one out there it was still fun. Can only compare to Stockton and prefer Shasta of the two. I am not a member of any tracks and only went to Shasta to meet up with Brok McAllister and used one of his loaner bikes. Dixon is pretty close and sounds good but refuse to join FB. If you all have any details would be glad to hear them. Only bike I have right now is the 701 which might be a big for the Kart track.

701 is likely too big for a cart track, some may allow it. I'll make sure and ask at any days I attend :)
