Suspension settings for a DRZ400sm

i found the rebound on the front to be way to little at 8 clicks out(not sure if this is factory or not, bought the bike used) it feels MUCh better at 4 clicks out on front rebound. I am running 4 out front compression as well.

So you felt like the front wasn't coming back quick enough at 8 clicks? Moving it to 4 doesn't cause it to feel bouncy?

I happen to prefer a lot softer of a ride, so I go light on compression -- but to each their own on that.

FrigginChi, What's the downside of raising the forks? High speed stability? What kind of riding do you do? I raised my tonight, to the bars, and from what I can tell its about a 12mm increase (or decrease actually, since its lowering the front).

Went around the block a bit and that, coupled with the 70mm race-sag, seemed to make it turn in a ton better. I'm just curious what the downside is.

Thanks!

i haven't experienced any "down" sides if you catch my drift. most of my riding when i do ride is in the twisties.

there was not enough rebound damping for me. 4 clicks out is more rebound damping than 8 clicks. Sorry I wasnt clear on that in my original post

You made it clear, I was just mixing it up in my head.

Have you guys made sure that your fork springs are correct for your weight. I know in my case that is usually the firsat thing i have to do. usually a bike stock sprung for a 170 rider. (i'm over 200). unless you have the correct sring to begin with all the other settings are pretty mute.

According to all of the material I can find, the bike (stock) is set for someone 175-185. I'm at the low end of that, and my rear-shock static-sag shows that (at 175 wet). Call me lucky I guess... for fitting in the parameters of the stock spring-rates.

Thanks for checking though...

Suspension adjustments

Hey hank, would you by chance know some settings to start with for a 135 lb. guy that's about 5' 6" ? I have a 05 drz400sm that I ride only on street and it throws me up in the air when I run across bumps and wondering if I could soften up the settings a little.

Dave, you may not get an answer from a nine-year old thread. I'd advise you to research MX or road racing suspension shops in the mid-atlantic region. I'm sure you can find someone who will provide some set-up options. Many will dial in the stock components for a nominal fee.
