Sweeping Winger 2026 Photos

You are allowed two per year, as normal culling, , ,
with tags.

When we were lucky enough to get two for the season, my Dad would jerk a hind quarter.
Sliced and heavily black peppered (fly deterrent) , strung over the clothes line for almost a month.
Stored in a grocery bag under the sink, venison jerky.
Handy snack while enjoying an enduro, slip a chunk in your goggle strap, , ,

I don't think an old classic would have survived this, long travel forks saved it from a sky launch.
I flinched @ the beam, b4 the weeds. :hail

Saturday, @two wheel tramp and I left Eureka heading south, and after breakfast in Ferndale, we took Mattole road. While Reama is a fantastic rider, after 50,000 miles of wringing her bike's neck, it went on strike for better working conditions and more pay. As of this writing, they are still in negotiations.

I rode back and forth between the "pay me, or I won't operate" bike and cell coverage to tap into @Lonster and his knowledge to try and come up with a quick solution. While that didn't materialize, it did give me a chance to take some pictures.

Once a ride was secured, and there was nothing left for me to do, I carried on out Mattole Road. Seeing the rescue wagon along the way made me feel better about abandoning @two wheel tramp with her broken bike. I headed south on 101 to Branscomb Road, and then came back up Leggett, with zero cars in front of me, before heading down to Shelter Cove for the night.

I had an ocean-side room, and the weather was awesome!

The sunset at Shelter Cove was a nice way to wrap up the day!

Weaverville was today's destination, and after a nice breakfast surfside, I took Alderpoint Road from Garberville, after a fun rip up and out of Shelter Cove. But not before my obligatory boat-launch-ramp photo.

Alderpoint was a hoot! and still in the upper 70's to low 80's, downright pleasant.

I stopped at the bar/convenience store in Mad River on Highway 36 to figure out the rest of my route, since it was only 12:30, and taking Highway 3 would put me in Weaverville way earlier than I wanted. So I figured another rip up to the Berry Summit on Forest Road 1 was appropriate.

I was marvelling at how much suspension travel I was accessing, and patting myself on the back for deftly dodging potholes...

I rode on a Marchesini rim that was bent like that for 10 years. No worries.
Bud, I Definitely agree with you with the awesome pics and story.
Reed, Thanks for all the effort in the abduction of Reamma. I'll let you know where I buried the body, in case I get caught. ;)
Did you notice that the all the pics you posted on USFS 1 have really nice pavement?
You definitely get some miles in, in a day. I'm a little jealous.

Broken bikes and bent rims. Oregon folk. :rolleyes

:laughing
Brilliant pics!! :thumbup

Huge props to @Lonster for the save. :Port
I love @Lonster and he knows it.

He and I had a great chat yesterday and I’m hoping we get to ride together on Sunday.

As for Oregon folk, we ride hard. :x

After hitting it for the second time in three days, it was better than I remembered it! The rough section doesn't last long, and I figured out the lines pretty well. Coming down FS 6, some big frost heaves were kind of wild and fun! I'm a glutton for punishment! But once I get out of Oregon, I feel like I need to load up on riding to tide me over until my next trip.

I found the footage and location of the deer incident from the Friday ride up to Eureka. I also found the location along Orr Springs Road. It's mostly how I described it. Deer shot out, I tagged it, then I went for a little excursion.

Here's the video I've not had chance to truncate the video so go to the last 20 seconds to see the action.

Here's the location...

Wait, wait, wait. How did the bike make it out unscathed, it looked like you sumoed over a 4x4 in that video. I'd have expected as least one square wheel :laughing glad you survived the encounter with the stilted rat!
