Target's anti-union video all employees see

Who does? What job are you talking about?
Random county pick. Others are similar:
In 2009-10, the salary range of the 50 top-paid employees was $123,697 to $160,394. In 2008-09 the range was $123,366 to $191,911. All figures included overtime costs but excluded other compensation, such as contributions to health and pension plans.
Note that this doesn't even included all the other benefits bankrupting Calif cities, counties, and the State, itself.

Essentially yes, because I don't work Union (although I have both worked for Target AND the United Food Workers Union, both of which are mentioned in the ad) and our entire economy (which pays the government) is essentially based on non-union labor and services (less than 10% of Americans work in Union Jobs). Unions are a stupid and failed communist process that was used to enforce necessary changes on America’s failed experiment with pure Capitalism in the early 20th Century. Unions were an unfortunately wrong choice of tool to solve a problem that did need to be fixed. They have no positive impact on America's Post-Industrial Service based economy except to empower corrupt Special Interests that undermine the ability of the middle class to impact real and necessary social justice changes to the current labor market.

Ok

Then who makes sure that children aren't used to sell chicklets on the street corners ?

Without turning this into another public employee pension debate -- that article itself picked the "Top 50 paid employee's." Most counties have thousands of employee's... kind of unfair to count the "Top 50" and make no mention of the rest, right?

Nonetheless, I see what you're point is, that's just not the best way to point out underqualified / unqualified government employees making loot.

If you look at it, I RANDOMLY used it, because it talks about cops and firemen getting these wages, which was part of your discussion, right?
Pull up something like Santa Clara County. They make SLO employees look like paupers.

It wasn't a part of this discussion, no; But fair enough on the random SLO choice.

Im refering to the 15ish gov workers I personally know. I know a brazillion college degree'd engineers and accountants who's skill are in demand (in the for profit sector) and work 50-70hr for less or equal to the gov employees.

This in a fucking nutshell is why everyone should be IN a union. The businesses don't pay top dollar, they fucking lowball to see who jumps on it. BECAUSE, there are a bunch of college degree asshats out there willing to work for wages BELOW their skillset. Now STFU and get back to work. :twofinger

Also, if it's only 10% (or less) of the work force that are Union, why do these fucks have such a hard on for them?

market decides what peoples skills are worth. The Unions decide how much they are worth.....us non union folks have to pay their wage. You understand why EVERYONE public and private can't be ina Union right? Why we all can't make $120k right?

Yeah, because the fucking rich have all the money. And the CEO's of corporations are making 300 times what the average fucking worker in his company is making. And they pay less a percentage in their taxes than their secretary. You need to realize that we are all heading down, not up. Wages have remained stagnant since the fucking 70's. They've scammed the system so bad that if you want to talk about the tax payer PAYING for someones wages, you need only look to TOO BIG TO FAIL and the rest of that bullshit. WAKE THE FUCK UP ALREADY. You aren't going to be rich, you're never going to have the mansion and the ferarri. So what the union worker makes a wage where he doesn't need food stamps or has to live in a fucking tenement. Is it too much to want to have a life without worrying every fucking minute about money and how you're going to pay for the doctor, or get tires for your car?

Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.

:wtf

You think it is the Unions that are keeping your wages down because you pay their wage? That greedy 10% of the American workforce? Who the hell do you think built your wages up?

I feel you are spellbound by the same folks who convince you you are just lucky to have a job.

Capn Corporate loves you.

umm no i dont think unions are keeping me down. I think gov unions are paying themselves more than theyre worth. I do think I'm very lucky to have a job though.

When we feel we are lucky to be employed its all good.

To many corporations are taking the "your just lucky to be here" approach and are making a case for wage ceilings based on erroneous information.

Open shops and PAC money disclosure/opt out for the members. Im ok with that.

Otherwise I am unimpressed by most Unions and the shell game they play with members money. This does not deter me from the firm belief that the service industry employees are being screwed these days and need help nor does it deter my belief that the Union Movement was good for all employees.

Service industry employees are being screwed because their services arn't worth what theyre charging. Sucks but mostly true.

Most of 'em are just trying to get some reasonable benefits.

Perhaps we should just pass a sweeping, all-encompassing (was that redundant?) health care program where every employer pays a percentage of their payroll to the government and we can all have free health care.

Then those people who make your bed and clean your hotel room can go back to making minimum wage.

Your example fails to mention that fire services, and police service can be a relatively fixed cost, projectable out numerous years. All it takes is a few minutes with a spread sheet really. If you're worried about the overtime they're earning, ask your city council to hire enough people to fully staff the agency. Then, *poof* no overtime.

If you don't like their base wages, then vote for someone who will cut them.

If you think they shouldn't hire anyone else and just cut service, well then okay, you can pay more for your homeowners and business insurance. About what you would save by cutting service really...

Fucking AWESOME Post!!!

The people who go on these diatribes against the AWFUL Unions must have never read a history book about children being forced to work 12 hours a day w/o a bathroom break. As much as I hate to see/read about the Gov. workers who exploit the system for their own gain- i.e, folks who cash-in their 2,000 hours of comp time to artificially inflate their 'avg' income, so that they can retire at 150% of what they made for last 20 years- I also know that if the 'Utopia' that is Corporate Amerika, had their way- you would be chained to that desk and not allowed potty breaks.

All this anti-union BS is just another version of drinking the Mr Jones' Kool-Aid.

Look, kids need to start picking up the slack. where do they think allowance comes from? Society needs chiklets, kids can provide those on street corners. society needs little fingers for sewing and what not and kids need money for their video games. Needs, meet needs.

Kids need to start working harder for their dollar. Allowance is gone..it's time for them to start paying rent too.

This is where the anti-union types say that all the rights given us by the union struggles of the past are in no danger of being taken back... BULLSHIT!
