Taylor v Serrano, first women's boxing match to headline a Madison Square Garden card

Jake Paul and his brother are both assclowns. They act like they care about fighters not being paid enough while they put on sideshow fights raking in millions of dollars and men and women on their undercard are getting paid 2-3k.

Anyone that thinks they care about anyone other than themselves is being duped.

Didn't he offer to buy a serious stake in the UFC to get them better pay and fringe benefits?

I do agree with the assclown comment but it seemed like he was serious about the better pay. If not then they have no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Again, I have zero faith that getting fighters paid more is his real goal. Personally, I think talking about fighter pay in the UFC (and MMA in general) is just a way to get under Dana White's skin.

And again, if guys fighting on cards he's on weren't getting paid pocket lint and buttons, I might believe he cares. Or not even just his cards, boxing overall. Payouts are extremely top heavy. Main eventers might be making millions and people lower down the card are getting paid nothing. At least the UFC has a 10-12k minimum, even for fighters that suck and have no fans.

If his efforts do end up in substantial increase in fighter payouts, then cool. I'm all for fighters getting a bigger piece of the pie. But if it doesn't result in more money in Paul's pocket, I don't believe he would be talking about it.

2 people mano a mano. Handle your conflict and move on. Shake hands and drink a beer afterwards, laugh about it. We may even become friends.

Theres just something about straight up fisticuffs. Something somewhere along the way has been lost. Pussification of america. Sometimes, violence solves things.

I very much appreciate martial arts and MMA as well. Them and boxing can teach things that cant be taught to kids normally.

I was always the one and only white dude in the mexican boxing gyms. They loved it and were always surprised when i did too.

Safe? with headgear and gloves? NO - boxing is not safe. My opinion!

It's no more dangerous than football. But lot of people have an aversion to people getting bruised and bloodied and perceive it to be more dangerous.

Sorry, that's a whole nother conversation.

Im not an expert on the matter to say whats more dangerous. Continual blows to the head whether headgear or not is not a good thing. Most boxers end up punch drunk, at early ages. It may be attributed to the amateur fighting style and wars in the gym. I dont know.

With that said id still get in the ring for some technical sparring.

My comparison is that with football, you have 250+ pound dudes juiced up on the best steroids money can buy running head first into each other play after play after play, week after week. And they've been doing it since they were kids. There's a lot of brain damage going on there.

Hell, Will Smith made a movie about it to put more eyes on the problem and still seems like no one really cares. As long as their team is winning, people aren't concerned with the damage being done to the athletes.

As far as fighting, I'm not a huge boxing fan for various reasons but one of them is the sport lets guys (and ladies) get concussed and allows them time to recover and sent back out to potentially get concussed again. At least in MMA, when you're knocked out, the fight is over. Not given a 10 count to see if you can go take more punishment.

But to your other point, a lot of gyms have moved away from that old style of training where they just go to war everyday. Toning down the full contact sparring is good for longevity.

I think it's more an issue of people need to be concerned about their own health. Nobody is forcing those athletes to get paid millions to go catch a ball. Obviously those athletes feel that the compensation is worth the risk. So if the athletes don't care about the risks of injuries, why should the guy sitting on his couch watching that shit on TV care about what happens to the athletes.

I agree with this. I really am not sure that the majority of the athletes in the NFL really believe their sport can and often does result in long term health issues of brain damage, regardless of scientific research. The athletes don't care because many of them don't really know. America as a whole has chosen to ignore the health risks of the game, that goes from the spectators, to the coaches, to the players, even to the medical staff. But to the point, I'm always in the camp of, as long as the participants and fans accept the consequences, have at it. I just don't really believe that's the case with the average football fan.

At least with combat sports, everyone knows exactly what's going on. In general... It's dangerous. To some, that's the appeal to watch or participate.

It's just a pet peeve of people I know that are really turned off by combat sports but stand and cheer when the quarterback of the team they don't like gets freight trained by a gigantic man.

Whens the last time you watched football? To me its not the same game anymore. Not sure exactly when it changed because i didnt watch football for a handful of years. Anyhow, from what im watching the quarterback is basically untouchable. One can soft tackle but if you hit that mfr square on you are getting some punishment. Also, if you land on top of him.

There is no head to head contact allowed and no using your helmet to initiate a tackle. Does it still happen, yes. Penalties come with it. With that said i do agree. I played football for 8 years starting at 9. I still remember the electrifying whole body sensation feel that came along with a hard hit with helmet contact involved.

From my rememberance CTE came onto the scene when Junior Seau took his own life. Id never heard about it before that.
