I rode down some stairs on my DRZ once – maybe 8 steps, 4 ft overall. First gear, no clutch, throttle off. The bike bounced hard and the engine stalled by the time I reached the bottom.

What’s the right thing to do with gear selection (first, second, etc.), clutch, front brake, rear brake and throttle when you want to ride down a long flight of stairs in a nice, controlled manner?

Your suspension is probably too stiff for that. I'd pull the clutch in and coast. Use some speed to smooth it out.

On a 4 stroke you can use the back pressure to slow you down. Butt over the rear fender, foot over the rear brake. If it's too bumpy go faster.

Wheelie for Safety

Sound bad? OK get into trials riding/competition...
There is entry classes..and it is a family sport, little kids get started.

It is a long time ago. for me it is 2nd gear and no feathering of the clutch until the last bump.

Your concern when riding down stairs is the transition to the flat landing at the bottom. You don't want to go so fast that you compress your fork and go over the bars. Ride them just like the picture above. Control your speed in 1st gear with a little throttle and rear brake. Give it a blip of throttle a couple of feet before the landing to lighten the front end and all should be good.

eh, how about your walk down your stairs and ride your motorcycle on roads with no stairs?

just a thought

Close your eyes and wheelie for safety.

Also make note that some aftermarket oil filters happen to stick out further and may get cut open and spray hot oil down right in front of your rear wheel. No reason why i know that :rolleyes

Oh, yea. Don't do it without a bash pan or plenty of suspension travel.
