Teknic Chicane Leathers- Opinions?

Don't know much about Texport or AGV's stuff. You think it's good stuff?

Holeshot, yes, I do. I have a good friend, Greg Prinsze (formerly AFM #9 and CLASS and DP instructor), who has worn Vanson custom leathers, Helimot, I believe, as well as Dainese (an old Monza suit like my first suit), and has an Italian made AGV, and he likes it very much. He wore it at my track day at Laguna last August.

I've looked at the Texport suit closely several times at the races and M/C shows, and have been impressed with them, particularly, the quality of leather and construction, and talked in detail to the importer. Texport has been making roadrace suits for 30 years now, and the "pro level" perforated one-piece roadrace suit they sell is the same exact suit that Akira Yanagawa and also the Fuchs Kawasaki Team wear. The only difference in the suit that Akira wears is that, as a Texport sponsored rider, Akira has the letters "Texport" sewn on the collar. I have also noticed that a lot of the privateer European and British Supersport or Superbike racers (e.g. Steve Hislop, Steve Plater, and Chris Walker) and British bike mag journalists riders wear Texport, much like the privateers here where Vanson. Their top of the line suit sold at Laguna for about $850. If I were going to buy a suit in that price range, I would buy the Texport. The model I saw at Laguna was the "Podium" model.

Thanks super gregg, thought I was missing something. I figure when it comes time to shell out the $$, I'll just get the back protector at the same time.

Think I'll wait till I see how my company treats me at review/bonus time in a few months and decide from there...

tilted i just wanted to let you know that i have that suit and it's really good. 1.2 mm cowhide witch is what most leathers are but you can get thicker if you want .. but the fit is really good i use a size 42 i'm 5'10 165lbs. i've tried many suits this and sidi fit the best on me besides custum..but i did'nt have 1300 to drop..get the armor and you'll be set ..and as far as you get what you pay for .. that suit retails for 700.00 dollars, not to mention teknics has a good warranty . and nickle plated zips and reenforced stiching, if anything goes bad they will be there to fix it.... good luck and enjoy your suit..it's the best of both worlds.race and rd.

I'm sure all have comparable warranty's, only if there is a manufacturers defect in stiching or the like. The warranty is most likely null and void once you crash them, then you better pray the quality is there. Holeshot and I saw a Teknic 1 piece at Johnsons leathers that was involved in a low speed lowside. It blew open at the seams like a cheap hooker spreading her legs. I wasn't impressed. He said he wasn't going to be able to fix the suit. From what I've seen, if you crash your Teknics, plan on shelling out another 400 - 700 to get another suit.

and how much are used legs going for? You might need one of them too.

Last spring I bought a 2-piece Teknic Chicane suit for $330. Why? Because I didn't have $700+ to plunk down for a non throw-away suit at the time. I have had 2 very very low speed tumbles with the Chicane and it has saved me from injury both times. So, for me spending $330 on a cheapo suit was a wise investment. Even if I have to throw it away after one more crash, I'm fine with having spent $330 and saved my skin and joints a few times.

If you compare a Teknic suit to no protection then it's a no brainer: the Teknic is better :p

BUT if you can spend twice as much or more, then I'd lay down the extra dough for a better suit. The Teknic Chicane 2-piece isn't that comfortable anyway! (but I'll still be wearing it at TH next week)

Hey, I've said this several times. If you want a suit for the track and expect to lay the bike down at 70mph plus, you want a great expensive suit that can be slid in several times.

If you want a suit for the street, and you should be unfortunate enough to crash at lets say 50mph, then you will likely hit things and be injured. The EMTs and or the ER staff will cut your suit into a bizzillian little pieces.

The track guys will often cut along the seems or stretch matterial to save your suit because they now the cost of a suit.

If you spend $400 on a suit and use it once and buy another, then your out $800. If you buy a suit for $1200, get it repaired for est $200, then your out $1400.

So what if it evaporates on you by the time you stop slidding! As long as it reduces injury and keeps you from haing road rash.

Well, when seams open up then you've got bare skin...sliding on the tarmac.

It's not about if the suit can be used again. It's about if the suit will protect long enough in the first fall...
