tell me about... 1999 KTM 640 LC4 Enduro

Ya I got it from Stan. How'd I blow it up? Hell I don't know. But I wish it hadn't.

That sucks man. :( It it makes you feel any better it was well maintained, sounds like bad luck on the bearing letting go. Definitely passed it to Stan with the best of intentions for many more miles of fun. Certainly more than three fiddy.

Ya I chalk it up to bad luck. But it opened my eyes to the SM world and next on the roster is a 690! :banana

woah, here's a terrible idea. found a good deal on an 640 Adventure. How hard would it be to convert to an Enduro?

Baja designs light kit for the front. New tank, obviously. Do they use the same seat? Probably more trouble than it's worth. I just think it'd be fun to go orange instead of "settle" for the DR650 I thought I was looking for.

A few more have shown up on CL. You ever go test ride one?? Im convincing myself I dont want to deal with a 25k mile LC4 and its oil changes....but damn, the DRZs KLRs big DRs etc that are in the price range arent tickling my fancy either.

...yes...tickling my fancy...use that term today. You'll make someone laugh.

What do you mean by 25k mile LC4? Is that how long the engine lasts before it becomes a major PITA? I though I was hearing that those engines actually had some life in them. I've read about the oil changes and, while tougher than your average bike, don't sound sooo terrible.

Found a good deal on one, but not sure when I'll be able to get out to check it out. This bike will be a 2nd bike, but also a commuter. I'm really not interested in bikes that are on their last legs at only 25k miles.

Not at all. 25k isnt too much. I would expect ANY thumper to get to welllllll over that. Was just puttin a mileage amount to have a baseline for my opinion.

Im lusting after the one in Salinas lol. :laughing I think I want a garage space though.

I think it comes to maintenance. I would assume any thumper can fly to 50-75k no problem, more if you are nice, less if you are a brute. Also, hard off road riding has to be more difficult than commute or back road twistys on a motor/whole bike. The lower amount of owners the likely better care it has seen. If a 12 year old bike has had 1-2 owners it has probably been looked after, as most people dont like to ignore something that they spent a pretty penny anytime soon. If it has 3-4, then each person only had it an average of 3-4 years. Which means the mindset of, well Ill keep it for a bit then move on, or this isnt what I wanted so why bother maintaining comes into factor. Maybe. I'm just conjecturing. No data points.

Lucky for you, I am not able to look at ANY bikes for almost a month or so (Noir City starts this weekend, going to Tahoe in two weeks, some other crap). I'm not really interested in that Adventure 640 in Salinas, but there's a sweet looking Enduro in Hollister that I'm positive will get sold before I have a chance to drive down to Hollister to check out. DAMN YOU TIME! WHY DON'T I HAVE AS MUCH OF YOU AS I NEED?!?!

Indeed. It is priced to move that one is. Im just exercising my shopping skillz. I cant pull the trigger on anything right now. :|

I GOTS IT! It's nice! Tires really are in a bad way. But the bike is in tip top shape!

$2k, <10k miles, 2nd owner, desperately needs new tires.

Not orange crush, the all black plastics with the tiniest hint of dark green in sunlight. Will update tomorrow!

R6 footpegs for passenger. I need to paint those brackets the original owner made:

KTM, left side kick start! And is that WP shock stock? The guy I bought it from said it was. Pretty nice hardware for stock.

You're right about new tires. Fuck yeah, have fun on that thing, dude! Order a water pump and gasket to keep on hand as a spare, we've had a couple of those in the shop for that.

Sweet deal. Tires are nothing.
Come do the sheetiron

Yep WP suspension stock. Looks to me like that thing is pretty much box stock.
