The Awesome Videos Thread!

That's an insane amount of hang time. How does someone find the balls to do that.

Wasn't this done in the last Any Sunday movie? Is it the same guy?

Not to diminish the stunt, I think it would have been better if he didn't stop at the top. Rather, he just turns in, pauses and just keeps going. It's fair to build up what was going on, but if he just rode up the road, turned in to the jump, and kept going -- the dynamic would have been insane -- especially if you weren't expecting it.

Somewhere along the way he went from supermoto to dirtbike.

Check this dude out-

Probably a repost, but they just made the record official.

If they put a fairing on that, they might go faster. :x :teeth

I had never put the 2 and 2 together until now, but it does seem like the origins of this sport are similar to NASCAR. Stock car racing was borne out of bootleggers running alcohol during prohibition. They souped up regular cars to make them carry the booze and go fast if necessary to get away from the cops, while maintaining a stock appearance. Eventually they started holding competitions among themselves and then, years later, it turned into a fully sanctioned sport.

These powerboat racing guys on the whole appear to have strong connections to drug smuggling operations. Here's an interesting article about a couple of them from the 1980's, who were active in both drug running and in the powerboat racing operations simultaneously. Not saying everyone's involved in this, but when you see crazy money being poured into a sport without significant sponsorship, you gotta wonder.

Rum runners, aka cigarette boats. They are most definitely rooted in smuggling illicit goods to shore.
