The Electric Motorcycle Thread

Like most KTM is playing with the numbers, they do state 18kW peak in overview but in looking at the specs you see this -

SPECIFICATIONS

Electric motor: Permanent magnet synchronous motor in a disc armature design
Rated output: 11 kW (15 hp) @ 5,500 rpm
Max. power: 16 kW (22 hp) @ 4,500 rpm
Torque: 42 Nm from 0 rpm

Interesting, the ktm is 300V! using "transverse flux motor"

300V battery pack? Sound expensive. Maybe they mean 300VAC

Yep, well I should have expected that to happen. The dunes are tough to ride on. I'm sure I overheated the belt, the sur ron works really hard to get through the sand. This was an extreme situation though, NORMAL SAND and small dunes the Sur Ron can do. Haha after riding the dunes on my mini bike I miss my quad. I still had an epic time riding both my bikes in the desert :)

Where did you find a professional fitment?

About as perfect fitting as I was ever able to find was the custom Bell helmets made from 3D scanning your head. I STILL want one of those.

Kali is in Morgan Hill. Budman has the Bell headscan thing. I watched them put his head in a transmorgrifier a few years back at Road Rider. Ah, back in the day.

And now, back to your regular programming.

Belt's and pebble rocks don't play well. Get one between the belt and pully and it will likely snap. I snapped my Zero belt the 1st day I had it on my dirt road. If I was off-roading with a belt I would carry a spare and the tools required.

Seems like a good deal, their quality looks good, I would like to see how much their replacement parts cost.

I see they offer it in 8kw/12kw/14kw, so 3 different controllers but same motors?

I see the freerider has 24" wheels also, those 20" are just way too small.

Yep, same 14kW motor just different controllers.

Nah it's too much work to change it on a trail. I've ridden this bike through A LOT of rough terrain much more than you'd want to ride a Zero FX through and it's been fine until it hit the sand dune. The sand isn't what killed it I think it was the heat from just going WOT the whole time and the it paddling through the sand. It's not like a Zero the belt doesn't move with the swingarm. You can launch this puppy all day and you won't snap the belt like a Zero. It's a gear reduction belt so you don't run a monster sprocket like the Cake bike and bend it when you dump your bike on some rocks. Definitely if you are going to ride your bike on the dunes and like BIG dunes not no dinky dunes the chain conversion kit is what you'd want.

So electric KTM's are predisposed to stoppies? :rofl

That is a very stylized trails rider video ... I'd like to see one do a 3 hour GNCC race.

Could you elaborate more on the fitting please? Did you show up at like a factory store in Morgan hill or?
