The future direction of helmets... iC-R

Had a friend tell me he was in on a kickstarter for this or something like it . . . but the helmet would end up costing like $1500. o_O

I can only imagine the first run, if it happens, will be terribly expensive.

I also would hope it is not compatible with any kind of chat or txt apps, that is just asking for all kinds of madness and RIP threads. But I would assume its full access to your devices though, and it would be nice to have maps displayed at least!

I like the idea of warning devices for upcoming cars, but in commuting traffic I think it would get annoying within seconds so hopefully you can disable it easily.

An adventure or touring rider would benefit the most I think, and it would be basically useless on a spirited or track ride (massive distractions).

Better be able to turn off the rear distance sensor warning. Imagine on a group ride were people like to ride up each others asses, it would be going off constantly.

The warning sensor is unnecessary given the HUD for rear view. That said, I love the HUD rear view. No more mirrors and head checks FTMFW!

Blue tooth/solar/rechargeable make this a must, but I'll wait a few years before the bugs are worked out and the price comes down. I'm guessing all teh top helmet manufacturers are all over this if not already in R&D.

The rear view sensor in traffic would be a constant nuiscence. However. I think overall many of these features will be good and one day be mainstream.

I LOVE the idea of a HUD. What I can't figure out is whether it's adjustable for people who are far sighted. I can see distance no problem. Up close, not so much.

Awesome concept, I'll reserve my judgement for when it arrives in stores.

Found it on Skully's site...

Does it work with glasses?

Yes. Both near and far sighted users can use the system with their current corrective lenses. Eyeglasses do not affect the heads-up display (HUD) at all because it is focused at an infinite apparent distance, meaning your eye’s internal lens does not have to adjust to the display to see it clearly. The HUD will be clearly visible without your reading glasses. We recommend you use whatever corrective lenses you use while driving a car when using AR-1.

If you wear Transitions glasses, the glasses will not fully darken if the visor is down. The visor is also photochromic and will block most of the UV rays.

the person that figures out how to make all these electronics modular so theyll fit into any existing helmet will make all the $$. ive tried on like 30 different helmet models and my head only fits 2 as well as id like. chances of me fitting into a Skully or IC-R are slim. and like hell im going to be ok w/ tossing the electronics after crashing and rendering the helmet useless.

Naw. I wanna be able to project warp drive stars through the HUD, pipe in the sound of a mean screamin' Moto GP bike, and display 15 THOUSAND RPMs... while riding a scooter. Perception, man. Perception. :x

:laughing.

I wanna blue shift into a set of wonderful titties. :boobies

Sensory overload, all these gadgets. I'd rather see an LED light on the helmet so the motorcyclist is more visible.
