The Home Grower's Thread

I was giving them a
Little
Kelp powder as well, in the water but one plant didn’t like it
And the leafs went crispy and died, very strange

I think you should consider switching to more cannabis oriented nutrients and you'll get a better result.

He's only using big bloom, that's his problem.

You need ALL of them and you will get great results

I know this is about pot plants but hoping yall know the best bug killer for edible plants since you do inhale the pot :laughing

I have an indoor herb garden which unfortunately has aphids somehow. I don't want to use insecticide since I cook with these, basil, thyme, parsley and oregano. What do you guys use or do pot plants not get bugs? :laughing

Just thought I would ask. :)

thanks

I gave her slight lean and will continue weekly until she's leaned over.

I'll pull down the branches as they develop.

That was an easy read and confirmed a lot of my assumptions

Eventually, you can consider some super cropping and I'd certainly trim everything below the light line (sort of lollypopping the plant).

Spray the aphids with soapy water and crush their soft bodies with your fingers. If there are any ants around, deal with them too.
+1 on neem. It works. Nasty smell though.

I sprayed them will a combo of Alcohol, Dawn and water. But there are thousands of them to try crushing. :cry I ordered Neem. This sucks! How the heck did they get indoors! ugh. Will the neem wash off easily when I harvest?

Neem is non-toxic to humans. They say you can use it up to day of harvest.

And yes, wash before eating.

I would recommend ladybugs if the garden was outdoor, but seeing that's it's not - I might recommend to start over. Unfortunately, the taste of the neem would likely persist even with a good washing and may not even be worth the hassle.

Here's something that may work well though - How to Kill Aphids with Water, Soap, & Pepper

It's reported that a ladybug will eat some 50 aphids a day. If you're lucky enough to have ladybugs in your garden, their larvae will eat their weight in aphids each day. ... Follow the directions for using ladybugs carefully so that they'll be most effective against aphids and other soft-bodied insects.

For everybody else in here:

PLEASE do not apply neem to your flowers. Ideally, one would spray nothing on plants once they have entered flowering stage. Neem is an oil and will not "wash off" with water. A quick search produced this seemingly informational site: Discover Neem

Don't get me wrong, neem is certainly better than 90% of the stuff people are willing to spray on their plants, but again - ideally nothing would be applied once flowers are forming. If you have bugs in flowering, (and you can afford to,) it is time to:

  • stop the grow,
  • dispose of the current plants
  • identify how the bugs got in
  • start over with healthy plants.

bugs are a key reason as to why I won't use cuttings from someone else, too much risk. I do everything from seed or my own cutting. If I am using soil, I sterilize it by baking at 200 for 30 minutes.
