The Home Grower's Thread

How are you outdoor guys dealing with the little green worms? I'm losing chunks of buds every week to those little fuckers.

Dad, the “Safer” product is really effective but you need to use it before they get big enough to eat and shit all over your buds. You can use it now if they’re still a few weeks from harvest and you can use a blacklight at night to pick em off as they appear neon green.

I’ve lost plenty to those little fuckers in the past. Hate em.

My first grow! 6 plants, 5 different strains. According to the utube vids i've watched, they're ready... Tricomes 5-10% clear, 80-90% milky, 5-10% amber.

Hoping you experts can un-confuse my on a few subjects...
* Why go any longer. I keep hearing people say they're to watch the weather and try to stretch it out untill the end of October. They look ready to me. :teeth
* Mutli-stage harvest? Or just cut it and hang it upside down? Is the idea w/ multi-stage to increase the yield? Because honestly, i think there's more than plenty there now. :laughing
* How concerned are all you outdoor growers with the ash this year? It's visible on the buds. It's got me kinda concerned... not concerned enough to not smoke it, of course. :smoking

I might pick up a black light and go night ops. :cool

MD, at this stage it is pretty much too late for any type of spraying (IMO). As suggested it is pretty much down to daily inspections and picking them little green bastards off one by one. Pain in the ass!! Next season just keep this in mind and initiate a prevention/repellent plan. What has worked for me in repelling butterflies and moths away (without any sprays) is to stake my pots with 4~5ft bamboo stakes. The 'forest' of stakes seems to keep them from landing on the plants per say. Below is an example of when I started staking them. Each pot looks like a bamboo forest after I am done.

Only caveat is that if you have big plants then some type of netting or plastic greenhouse will do the trick.

As mentioned, different strains mature differently. As a first time grower I would just take note of when you harvest and next season adjust harvest time accordingly granted you are growing the same strains. My rule of thumb is (indoors) if they say it is an 8 week strain I go 9 weeks. If it is a 12 week strain I go 13 or 14. I like the heavy affect. Outdoors I am still trying to figure it out and I am dependent on my peers experience with whatever particular strain I am growing. Right now I am growing Legend OG and I am told to push it to end of October if possible if not early November.

Harvesting sucks. I try to do it all in one shot. In my experience I have never seen bigger yields by multi stage harvesting. If I do that it is because I got tired of cropping and decided to continue the next day or so. Harvesting sucks.

Yeah. I got a dusting of ash on all my girls too. I am not too concerned about it but it is a thought in my mind.

Your girls look good brother!!! What are the strains if I may ask?

Purple Kush feminized....

Tricomes are starting to cloud, could be ready to go next week. Glad it’s going to be cooler temps.

Spraying with bacillus thuringiensis weekly after bud development has kept them caterpillar-free this year! Has always been a problem.

Brah. Straight up grape juice right there!!!! :cool:cool

I'll try to remember to take a pic this afternoon when I do the daily inspection.

Posted pics a few weeks ago, has been quite a bit of growth since. I think I'm just a couple of weeks away from harvest.

I have two plants, both hybrids, for sure one is Girlscout Cookies, can't remember the other.

Some close ups, and also the BT spray I use. I sprayed for the first time about 3 weeks ago, after noticing some brown/dry nugs. Seems to have solved the problem.

Blue Dream; Purple Punch; Gorilla Glue; Venom OG; Black Jack (X2).
To my uneducated eye (using magnification), they all look ready. My oldest son, who has quite a bit of experience growing, thought they looked ready a week ago... but my brother, who is more of an expert, keeps telling me to wait. But my brother hasn't seen them in person.
Weather report calling for some rain here on Saturday. I think I'll go ahead and start harvesting today.

My next issue is trying to get them dry without mold. I have to dry them outside, pretty much... I have a small greenhouse for a couple plants, and a large carport with sides, but open ends. I won't be control temp/humidity. I plan to hang them up, put some fans on them, and hope for the best.

No experience with Black Jack but BD, PP, GG and V OG can probably come down now. But I will side with your brother and say let it go a little longer. If rain is coming probably a good idea to chop them before it comes. I am going to greenhouse / tarp mine for the upcoming rain.

Here are some shots from my garden. I grew four varieties this year. From left to right:

Blueberry CBD. A mix of blueberry crossed with something for CBD. Supposed to be 50-50 THC and CBD and looks fantastic. Pretty much ready now.

Ghost Train Haze is a huge sativa. This one is almost nine feet tall and was one of the lower branches. I tied down the tops and htis one grew up and up and kept growing. The entire plant is covered in 12-20 inch long colas. Won't be ready for a few weeks.

Sour Diesel. We all know this one. I was thinking this would take longer but it seems ready to come down.

Tangerine Dream. Huge fucking indica-like colas. In all honesty, I may have mixed these and the blueberry up. I'll find out when I smoke it. This looks like an indica, but is more sativa dominant and is taking forever. It is nowhere close to being ready.

I have no idea how I am going to get through trimming all of this stuff. Huge crop this year, I found a new organic fertilizer that is magic.

Last few pages look super awesome. Pretty jelly, but also kinda happy to not have to deal with certain aspects of growing weed this year. But I did swap over the dope shed to grow some microgreens. :)

If anyone wants help to trim, please let me know.

Hey hey. If you are still interested and want to spend the day up here, you can play with horses and dogs and cat. And trim. I have more than too much to trim on my own. I'm planning on starting next week, then should have a lull for a couple of weeks. Then big time trim job for the ghost train haze and tangerine dream.

Harvest done... my first grow in the books.
I'm pretty happy with the yield. :teeth
Whew, that was a job. I think I got carpal tunnel vision! :laughing

Yes indeed. Push out to crop at the same time with the Haze. Trust me... it looks ready... but it is not. Is this a Dark Heart Nursery cut? Indoor I push it out to 13~14 weeks. :smoking

I don't know. MY neighbor gave it to me when it was already potted. But yeah, I am putting a stop on everything. I cut a few branches from the SD and there blueberry cbd. Good to smoke now while I wait, but definitely going to wait on the rest.

Regarding the SD, it is waaaaayyyy further along than the Haze. Haze trichoimes are still clear. SD are all cloudy, starting to amber up but not as quick as I thought they would. Every day I take macro shots with my DSLR and examine them on my computer to determine the best time for harvest.

I need some help to better understand how and when to prune.

Anyone have any guidance? Is there a trick to it or just a learn by doing?
