the new Hostess products: anyone else somewhat disappointed..?

I haven't had any of the new products, and haven't eaten any in years. But my recollection is that they tasted like a combination of sugar, lard, plastic, and chemicals. Isn't that what people liked about them? :dunno

I've tried the cup cakes, they seem smaller to me.:|

Pro tip, buy the individual ones and you shall get the full size. The boxed ones are 10-15% smaller. Twinkies being the most noticeably smaller than the rest.

I'd like to think I'm quite the expert on these. And you're right. The taste is not quite the same as it used to be. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that they get frozen. Something like that I remember reading. Some stores they go to may have them frozen when they're shipped to extend the shelf life of something like that. Had something to do with the Hostess infrastructure isn't nearly what it used to be so the nearest production facility/bakery may not be so near anymore. Maybe they've fiddled with the preservatives to extend shelf life (lol!) since it takes them longer to get into stores?

Whatever the case is...it's still better than no Twinkees at all.

I know that the store I work at doesnt get them frozen, but they no longer get delivered to us straight from the bakery anymore. They're, instead, delivered by a middle man to cut costs. They have a longer shelf life than previous and can be frozen if the store so desires, but it technically wont extend their use by date as its already printed on the container.

We did taste tests and my coworkers and I agreed that the Twinkies had the biggest change in taste and texture, but they were still twinkies and they were still a guilty pleasure regardless.

DDogs are muthafuckin drakes man! How dare you.

Both brands were owned by the same company pre-bankruptcy. McKee bought the Drake's brands out of the bankruptcy.

Devil dogs are only equalled (almost) by the amazing Ring Dings. Not to be confused with the knock off, Ding Dongs. I miss all the northeast snack foods of my youth. At least the stores around here stock the best cookie of all time around Christmas time, Mallomars.

And anyone who thinks Little Debbie's, the cheap knockoff of the snack food world, can remotely hold a candle to the real deal, Drakes Cakes, is wacked.

Arrite we cool now...just don't be talking up no tastykakes an shit cause they suck even worse lil debbie.

So if you ever come home drunk and decide you want to have a warm twinkie, don't just bite into it right after you microwave it-that cream filling retains heat like lava.

I had more blisters in my mouth than a hooker during fleet week.

It's not hard to imagine what this might mean about you in a Freudian interpretation... :rofl

J/K man, but it sounds pretty suggestive. :laughing

I am not familiar with this world of flavors for which you all are longing for. Having never tasted a twinkie I can't even imagine the euphoria an American childhood might have been :flag

:|

bought the chocolate donuts and twinkies and both tasted somewhat "plastic" rather than pastry...

remember the original twinkies were fluffy and moist...latest seems dry , bland, and foam...styrofoamish, that is..

anyone else disappointed with the new hostess stufff..?

For reference, when was the last time you had a Hostess product? Were you an adult or a teen? 'cos, they might taste as they always have, but you remember them differently. From personal experience, Cool Whip just isn't as appetizing as it once seemed to be (then again, that'd imply that I developed good taste...and that's a stretch....)

Not so much euphoria as diabetic coma...

New stuff tastes like shit. I bought a bag of chocolate doughnuts bit one and gave the rest to a homeless dude.

I never understood why they didn't sell the Chocodiles in every market. They would oddly pop up in random places - I found them in Pocatello, ID, Eldorado AR. Never could find them in large cities.

Chocodiles are a chocolate covered twinkie.....

They used to sell em at the Kwikee Mart here in Napa, but none of the 7-11's or bigger stores carried em. It was so weird and so difficult to buy cuz everyone knew ! :x

To be honest, twinkies weren't that great before the bankruptcy. I tried some a while back and they were kind of meh. I don't know where the great twinky love came from.

I always wonder at the usage of that phrase. Should I suspect any post you make without that lead in as a lie? :twofinger :laughing

haven't had any of the "new" hostess products but I have this feeling it's across the board penny pinching. I've never been a big dessert fan so I likely won't be buying any anytime soon.

but

for example: as a kid I used to LOVE reese's peanut butter cups - like LOVE but I had one recently and was pretty disgusted by it. The chocolate was waxy and the peanut lacked any creaminess... so the wife brought home a Justin's Peanut Butter Cup from Whole Foods... GAWTDAMN so friggen good!!!! I remembered what I loved so much about Resse's

I assume in an effort to keep prices low for the consumer, especially since their costs keep increasing, they have slowly reduced the overall quality of the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.

Justin's Peanut Butter Cup was worth all 200 pennies!

So glad the doughnets are back! Those white powered ones are awesome!

Has anyone had the pies? How are they stacking up to the pre-bankruptcy pies? They're the only hostess product I kinda like.
