The Official 2017/2018 NFL Thread

The point is also to get minority coaches exposure and some name recognition, even if they are not going to be hired.

The panthers are for sale right... maybe they will get a minority owner.

That would accomplish nothing. At the Pro Level, in this day and age, the best man gets the job, period. If I recall correctly, there were 7 African American Head Coaches in the NFL in 2017. That is a drastic over representing of the less than 15% of the population that Blacks in America make up. Really if you want to improve opportunities for minorities in Professional Coaching, you need to increase the representation at the College level in the big schools the NFL recruits from. That is the pipeline for developing coaching staff.

You don't really believe this do you? I've seen way too many coaches that just aren't very good get moved from one team to the next because they hit the jackpot once. Going back the first one to mind is "We punted on third down to surprise them" Rich Kotite and more recently "I can force my college style offense into the Pros" Chip Kelly. Then there are the perennial losers like Lewis producing sub-500 seasons for close to half their tenure with a team.

I guess if you mean "best man" you're including how the person interacts with players, other coaches, management and ownership maybe, or if it's more reflective of "best man" available.

To me far too many NFL owners/GM select HC on criteria that has less to do with performance than feels. :2cents

Well, I mean, it is the best interview they can get, and they typically interview as many guys as they can. You can certainly have a GM/Owner who is bad at hiring the right guy, look at fucking Cleveland, but that is another story.

The point is more that organizations in this day and age are not going to let a factor like race get in the way of making more money and you make money by winning ball games. That is what jacks up your revenue separate from shared NFL money, the jersey sales, the stadium seat prices, etc. Cleveland has an average ticket price of like $70. Seattle has one at like $280.

Mike Tomlin was a Rooney rule hire. He blew away the interviewers and they hired him on the spot, canceling other interviews. He’s worked out well. I think most owners are color blind when it comes to winning. :wow

At least the QB position has gotten more diverse players.

I am just surprised the super athletes havent all take over that position, i mean they dominate like 98% of every other position in every other team sport

Dumbass.

He's getting a fine and a slap on the wrist.

Its not that hard to just follow the rules. Don't fuck up a career

mary jane "rules" are stupid. it's basically the equivalent of alcohol

I agree.

I can also relate. My job hinges on being able to pass a drug test, therefore I don't do drugs.

It's really that simple.

are you a pilot? or a driver of some sort?

i don't get how it's a big deal for an athlete. it's certainly not a PED lol

nah I'm .gov

I don't think it's a big deal, but it's still illegal in Alabama. So I mean, just don't do it?

And now I can breathe....

Woot!

Not a boring game in my book.

congrats mang...take the W anyway you can get it.

as a fan of defense I thought it was not the best game. There was a mix of good defense, but also a lot of ineptitude on offense.

ah sorry i don't know why i got defensive. i agree if it's a job requirement - even if it's asinine - just don't do it.

but it really gets on my nerve because the 'rule' is vapid and he wasn't "on duty"

Member when Shanahans play calling was why the Falcons lost in the playoffs
