The reason that gas is so HIGH is because they're EXPORTING gas and oil!!

Once again I will ask for some realism here.....flatten profits? The American corporation is one of the greatest inventions ever. Flat profits is not however part of the game :laughing They (big oil) value themselves on their ability to grow profits. increase market share and keep the government off their back.
If you don't want big oil to profit off of you then use less oil. :)

Profit is awesome, I said so. Nationalizing is bad, I agree.

Oil getting gov't off their back?! The US govt SERVES the oil companies! The armed forces acquire and protect oil fields and infrastructure. The intelligence agencies manipulate or outright install puppet governments to favor the oil companies. Satellites and USGS locate oil fields. What do we get in return? The oh so huge R&D costs that somehow forget to install a $100,000 valve and the Gulf gets fucking destroyed. You enjoy your cheaper pump prices than europe, yeah I see that, but at the end of the day, whats the real cost, financial and ethical? Wars abroad. Corruption at home. Fuck that, it can be done better, and at less of a cost to our morals and taxes.
Patting the oil companies on the back for their excellent profits is near ludicrous.

Again, the reason profits are so "high" is that the Exxon does more business than any other company in America. Again, if took the entire profit away and redistributed it, it would be less than $50 to each American.

The cost of gasoline is the cost of CRUDE OIL. The cost of CRUDE OIL has remained high. Exxon can't change that. You don't understand the economics.

Again, half the oil we used in the US is imported.

That doesn't explain the hijinks that reliably happen every year with pump prices, and tankers held offshore. If gas is so damn vital we are in a constant state of war, than just give us our damn gas, make your profit but quit gouging. Taxpayers are getting f'd both ways here, we heavily subsidize the industry, then get played at the pump.
If you can explain some economics to me, I welcome it.

The American corporation is one of the greatest inventions ever.

Wat. A history book, please read one. The founding fathers were vehemently opposed to what we have today. And for the same reasons for the state of our economy today. One could make an even better arument that the corporation as it currently operates was one of the most unamerican inventions ever.

The job creators can't create jobs cause of Obama and if we just paid less taxes and had less regulation we could give everyone jobs. Sounds good on TV. But the truth is currently as well as historically the only thing the corporation cares about is the bottom line by design. They are sitting on piles of money, record profits, and despite what the news said given more tax breaks. Jobs created? Lol they layed off more people and bought back stock to enrich themselves more. And less than 10% of layoffs have anything to do with too much regulation as rported by law by he corps themselves. Unfortunately no matter what you'd like to believe, The corporation has no moral imperative or civic duty.If they could send every American job to laos or something to make more money they would do it in a heartbeat. As a matter of fact, it would be a dereliction of responsibility to the shareholders if they didn't. It's just the way they are designed and that's why they were supposed to be strictly regulated,

"The rest of the story." (Paul Harvey)
Chevron had sales over $64b. They only made a 12% net return. And they paid $3.94 per share to all the 401ks, and little guys (like me) that own their stock.

Meanwhile, Apple, which makes everything overseas, had $6.62b in profits. A net return of 23.4%. They paid NOTHING to shareholders.

So who is the better citizen? Don't EVEN get started on the number of employees, taxes paid, and charitable contributions, when you start bashing one company over another. Things are not as ignorantly simple as they may seem.

does everyone need an iphone or ipad to get to work each day?
do you need an ipod to put food on the table?
do you have to buy an app to get to job interviews?

didn't think so

comparing a required commodity to a luxury one is ridiculous

What IS your point?

Thank Obama for not approving the Keystone XL.

If you understand EROEI of Bituminous sands, AKA oil sands, then it is a good idea to dump Keystone XL, because it is too costly in energy and dirty produce. Its less costly to use renewables.

There have always been wars over natural resources, with the supposed dwindling supply of oil it may get worse. Conservation is the only viable solution until an alternative fuel is found. :)

Absolutely a required commodity. However I disagree with you...a perfectly leget comparison and telling too. :)

Obama didn't postpone the approval because it was bad business for the Alberta operators. It's not his job to review your business plan unless we're guaranteeing the loans.

Good point about the oilsands. Most folks have NO idea how polluting the Canadian crude is... The oilsands are not crude oil, they are a semi solid bituminous mess of oil, sand, dirt, heavy metal, clay, and other stuff. It takes THREE barrels of fresh water to produce ONE barrel of oilsand crude. The water is NOT recyclable and instead is shunted into massive lakes called "tailing ponds." They are not ponds. One of them has a fourteen mile long earthen dam holding it in. That is the largest earthen dam in the world. Imagine the Bay Bridge. Now lengthen it to 3.5 times its current four mile length.

That is ONE tailing pond in Canada full of water so toxic that birds that land in it die. It is covered with bobbing scarecrows and every day dynamite is set off to scare off water fowl. Imagine the SF Bay full of toxic, heavy metal laden water. That's ONE tailing pond in Canada.

Absolutely. It's not America's responsibility to be the EPA for Canada. I'd rather buy oil from tar sands of Canada than the sand of the Middle East. What form of oil is hurting humanity more? Is it the tar sand of Alberta or the oil from the Persian Gulf? How may carrier groups do we have in and around the Middle East?

Sure. However, the decision to buy oilsands oil impacts not just you, but everyone in the Western hemisphere. As the toxic byproduct dump builds and builds it also allows concentrated toxins to enter the biosphere. Remember most of the oilsands was stable and very old. Processing it leaves huge amounts of very nasty stuff in open water in the environment. It won't go away. The question really is not what hurts whom, the question is what level of harm is morally appropriate? How much nasty shit do we have the right to introduce into the environment so we can drive an SUV four blocks to pick up a six pack?

Do we have a moral obligation to pollute as little as possible? Or do we just keep whacking away because without pollution the economy collapses?

Honestly I have mixed feelings about the pipeline. I recognize the need. However the one simply thing that is conveniently forgotten is that once Canada is supplying the majority of our oil, does anyone think they will be some fairy god mother? They won't be. They will be just as greedy and business like as Saudi Arabia or Venezuela. In the long run, if the US can not become energy self sustaining, we are fucked.
