The Supersport is Dead

Brembo doesnt make suspension and Ohlins doesnt make brakes. I'd be way more worried if Brembo was allowed to buy Magura, Galfer, etc.

Brembo and Ohlins havent had THAT much competition for years because they produce some of the best products around.

i want a racing chassis with an electric motor and a battery big enough to last 20 minutes flat out and a generator/fast charger to charge the battery within 45 minutes. that would be a new development.

MotoE exists. I don't know how long the charging takes. You may be waiting for the next generation of battery tech to charge between trackday sessions. Solid-state batteries are almost consumer-ready and may accomplish that.

How were Brembo and Ohlins competing?

valid point that they were not in direct competition and i agree with you. as the control systems on motorcycles become more integrated with each other it may make sense to consolidate. my fear is that there will be less options for consumers in the future.

i'm aware of motoE, the exhibition of 'future tech'. lightning offers an electric 'race' bike for $40k. i could put together one for $10k. when they sell one for $15-20k they can take my money

I’m lucky enough at the moment to have a 998, 748 and a 1098 in the shop and I’ll get to ride them all! I see enough clip-ons on the daily to keep the legend alive

Soooo lucky!

@tzrider "to new heights" is wishful thinking . Any improvement would be good though.

Man...I was just talking to someone about when we used to go AMA Pro racing as amateurs and there were crowds in the 150K range over the weekend. Laguna was off the hook when we raced there when moto GP returned. Insanity in crowd size.

It's so different now. Feels like what a wet dog looks like.

Thing is, as the moto market gets smaller, less firms are able to stay profitable. Eventually, things pair down the 1 or 2 large suppliers and a few boutique suppliers. Suspension is there now. Brakes have been there for awhile. There's no new entrants into the brake markets (for bikes). Brembo will push Ohlins into the OEM supplier market, so budget suspension with limited performance and Ohlins branding on new mid range bikes. This is Brembo's MO. KYB/ Showa/ Marzochi/ Sachs are the ones worried, IMO....cause Brembo's gonna package their brake/ suspension lines. So yeah...your'e actually more correct than I gave credit for when I first read your post, especially given Brembo has a wheel offering too. They'll use that to push other suppliers aside and drive firms out of the space. This also goes for autos as well. Ohlins has done a poor job of getting limited production performance autos onto their suspension as part of the "package". Brembo is really tops here, so expect at least 1 of the large auto makers to be using Ohins products on their performance line(s) for autos.

We may see a deal with Tesla in the future, here. IMO (guessing).

Brembo could ruin the Ohlins name by pushing their products onto midrange (or lower) bikes. OEM Ohlins already exists on top-tier bikes and it's generally not good compared to their aftermarket products. Producing an even lower-tier product for midrange bikes will be so lame. How much worse could the suspension parts get... oh, as bad as OEM Showa/KYB on midrange bikes. Will Ohlins start making damper rod carts

Well the irony is that it's actually less parts in a DDS/ Spring pressure fork than an oil bath. They can be built for near the same cost as OB, yet the price is some 50% more than OB. Yeah, I think more special models will come with Ohlins/ Brembo upgrades (which is already happening as you pointed out). I DO think they'll want to go OEM for a full fork given KYB/ Marzochi/ Showa hasn't done much with electronics that I've seen.

Ohlins Screaming Eagle carts and shock for the HD line is mid range, and that's about as good a review as I'll give it for now. We haven't gotten it on the dyno yet, but will this winter. Be interesting to see what the numbers look like.

Faster is a loaded term. Faster around a track? R6. The 10K RPM limiter sounds so unexciting anyway. Looking at the new swingarm, I thought "shitbox", but I shouldn't be as judgmental this soon. The R6 starting from 2008 on up is an absolute scalpel at the track. I'm doubtful the R9 will be as competent as the R6 and I'm doubtful how close it'll be as a replacement. So far...no one's even ridden it that I know yet....
I bet you are waay faster on the R9 around track than me on the R6. So, R9 is faster ... LOL

I’m in Italy visiting mamma, making sure I’m not kicked out of the will. lol

I’m in the Alba area. Gorgeous twisty hills, smooth tarmac, very well-behaved road users. The weather this weekend was splendid. Loads and loads of motorbikes and group rides.

But missing: the supersport. Or for that matter, anything with clip ons. I’ve heard the revving of a possible supersport, but no visual.

Another thing missing: at the watering holes, not a rider under 35. But that is bad sampling because young folk don’t need to stop as much as us wiser ones. lol

Weird. Home of Bagnaia, Marini, Morbidelli, Bastianini, etc.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet but I think one of the factor is also cost as SS/RR bikes tend to cost more than say their regular sport and/or naked counterparts with a real handlebar on average. Back in the 2000s, a Gixxer Thou cost way more than the TLR or SV thou of the world so I'm sure that's still the case...

Crazy inflation impacts a lot of consumer goods so some folks may try to save as much as they can so they can still afford the grocery.
