Several facilities in the Bay Area, including mine in San Jose, are hiring mechanics to service the fleet.
The postal service is always hiring of course. But most entry level jobs have a wait time of a year until full benefits kick in. Auto technicians are eligible for full benefits from day 1.
I'll be honest. The wages are just Ok for this area. A good flat rate tech most likely makes more than we do. Our facility, and the others in the area, hire in at pay grade 8 (auto technician). Our facility typically promotes to 9 (lead auto technician) after the 90 probation period.
