Scott Lavalle. God that guy rides on rails up and down 9.

That's funny, I noticed him too before. He's goddamn fast. Scary fast. In fact, he's so confident about himself that I've seen him almost touching his knees on the ground turning around to get out of the Vista Point parking lot. As you know, there's hella gravel up there, so I thought that was 1)pretty dumb 2)pretty fucking cool!

"I'll show them..."

My famous last words. Time and time again. Eventually, most everyone learns. I like to think I have, for the most part.

And in the words of the immortal Anthony Gobert:

"Crashing is learning"

Yeah, Scotty is a character. Funny guy. I talked to him after one of the Sears Po, er, INFINEON RACEWAY AFM events last year, where he had a top 3 finish in 750 Production.

"Nice job, Scotty. What did you do differently this time?"

"I stopped treating Sears Point like Highway 9. On Highway 9, I pass people but I'm polite to them, I don't want them to crash. Today, I got out of that mindset and started stuffing people."

I can talk all the politically correct bullshit in the world, but truth is I'm competitive. Sure, if someone blazes by, the first thing I think to myself is "Let's see what he can do". This is bad, for both my driving record and my state of self preservation.

I work my way around these situations in three ways:

1. I don't ride congested areas where riders typically go out bombing a road like a public racetrack.

2. I ride in textile gear. If the knee can't go down, I won't ride past a certain limit.

3. I ride with people I know and trust, who ride like me. Good pace through technical bits, chill out on straights. No competitiveness there, and I'm more than happy to take turns leading groups with other riders. If I wanted to see nothing but open road ahead, I'd ride by myself.

So how did you get holes in them?

I've touched them down from time to time when I was "excited". I typically ride right up to that pace that my knee can touch if it's out, and then dial off on the street. Any faster and I need that third point of contact with the pavement through the duration of a corner to feel comfortable.

It was a cheap ass pair of Joe Rocket ballistic nylon pants anyway, I bought them because they claimed they were "water resistant". I think I've used toilet paper that was as "water resistant".

Scotty Lavelle is a strange case to me-- he's one of the ones I deep down believe goes too fast for the street, but at the same time he's not dangerous (to other riders at least)... unless you consider dangerous being vacuum sealed to your seat via sphinter pressure after he passes you at mach three. Cool guy to talk with though, and he's got a shop open up in Boulder Creek now... hopefully it will take off like he was talking, as a hangout and not just another moto shop.

But I doubt you'll find anyone willing to go faster than Lavelle on the street. And I'd be wager it wouldn't happen on any other road.

Dude even his riding buddies aren't even as fast as he is and they're already 10 X faster than me. I remember him kneedragging back when he had his 91' ZX-7 DOWN the backside of 9. I couldn't even kneedrag UP 9 if I tried...

I'll teach you anytime! I really don't think you want to crash that nice clean gixxer again though. If you want to ride slow wheelies it's a guarantee you'll crash. 12 O'clock wrecking crew in full effect :cool

That's what the TW is for ;)

Scotty

Scott is supercool.

I swear he must bend time and space on 9 (squat bike, stretched out). I have ordered and received brake pads, sprocket and am having a spacer made for the rear wheel. I think Scott has plans to move his shop to the corner so that he can set up tables and chairs for a hangout...smart thinking.....YOU KNOW, I'll be posing...

What's funny is, i know Raul on an R6, him and another guy were going balls out into a corner....Scott passed them both in the same corner. This from Raul directly...needless to say, we were BOTH amazed...Raul carries good speed and said he was going as fast as he dared.

BTW: Scott sells a "lipstick" cam setup (in it's own case). If any of you fast guys are willing to make a video down 9.......I'll buy it! I'm a SUCKER for that shi*.

BTW: Do the BTB guys got a video?

I want some local stank.

That Las Vegas extremes video with the black guy was cool.....smooth wheelie artist.....and a real character. My fave is "The Hard Way"....sic....Seth...oh man....

thanks!

As far as tickets....well, i guess i'm in the same boat now...those new pro-flo pipes are loud (louder than i expected). the cops will be hearing me for sure about a mile away. I need to cruise anyway (squidly, needs work)...

You know you are going slow through the twisties, when you pass a CHP and he doesn't even budge....man, what a wake up call...(read: I am one slow mu fu*a), but i live to ride another day, NO ticket...yeah!...that keeps me happy...i hate crashing...man, does that hurt. That one chicane canyon section that y'all go through at 80+, I go through a -60.....i must've looked like a good samaritan....

Tickets are more expensive now, then in the 80's...

Depends, if we are talking track settings then definitely my answer is B.

Even on the street if they are "fast" are they a responsible fast i.e.: always in control of the bike, or not.

yah what's the business with him opening a shop? what kinda shop is it? and where is it?

As he said to me, he's making your basic moto shop, but I guess he wants to also expand into doing tires (lots of boulder creek folk would love a tire changer and inventory at hand :)), as well as providing something akin to a sportbiker hangout.
