I am preparing for a Thill track day in two weeks and was wondering which compound to go with on Dunlops. I know this depend on my riding style which is a slower A rider on a 600rr. I am thinking about the 209 GP medium compound for October. If anyone has rode with these, I am curious to know what tire pressures you are using since the new track was wasting tires. 34 front/30 rear?

For reference, is it better to go to a softer compound in the cooler months of late October and November?

I ran the 208's with med compound with approximately a pound higher pressure running barely A pace.

They wore perfect. But be prepared for some suspension tuning.

We (Harley, Billy, me, a few others) run the same compunds all year round, soft front / med rear at every track, (Bridgestone BT-003's) and do just fine, don't need to mess with pressures or suspension.

The Dunlops should be ok, see Dave Moss first thing to get the rebound sorted, and you should be fine. He will tell you the pressures to try as well. although once the suspension is right you don't need to mess with the pressures.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'm about to switch to bridgestones and was going to use a medium front/rear. Are the soft fronts lasting as long as the medium rears with the new surface? If so then I'll go with that instead.

Thanks!

Short answer is Yes. In fact Harley usually only stocks soft fronts in the BT-003's, you can get mediums but you'll have to ask for them special.

I can only answer from experience for liter bikes but we're using ~ 2 rears for every front, doing 2:00 - sub-2:00's pretty much all day long with lots of trail braking.

Hey Eric,

Cool, see you guys there.

Sorry for a hijack, but where are you getting the B-Stones? I've been having a hard time getting them, and was hoping for a local place. I guess the need for a 165 slick makes them hard to find....:(

man

im slowly getting convinced to try out the bridgestone's. anyone who's gone from dunlop 209's to bridgestone's have any suspension issues? When i went from michilin to dunlop it took me 2 days to get my suspension sorted out. that's really the only reason i dont' want to switch to bridgestone, i don't want to take 2 days to get the suspension dialed in all over again.

Very little change should be needed, maybe just a quick change to the geometry. Harley and Billy know what to recommend, Billy has been racing an R6 all year so he can give you pretty detailed setup numbers Max.

As far as availability, Harley Barnes is where I get mine, they are also available at T-Hill in the garage store at Keigwin's days. Not sure about other T-day providers.

Good question. I have a Oct Thill day coming up too ... I chose to go with medium compounds (Michelin slicks) front and rear. My pace is ~2:00.

My last trackday Aug 18/19 I had Pirelli slicks soft front/medium rear. My front was torn up but my rear was in great shape.

D208's soft front, medium rear. My front is wearing about 1/2 the pace of my rear. I think it's a fair set up.

I'm going to try to squeeze two more days out of my rear at T-hill next weekend.

I ran 6167's when we were up there for the AFM event. Certainly run a harder than normal front...Thill is hell on fronts now.
