Thoughts on current model BMW cars?

I guess. They got kush rides, great interiors, all the wizbang stuff and are reliable as bolts.

Ill take that over any European car.

You're like grandpa who still thinks it's 1980 and Japanese cars are trash. It's cute. :laughing

To be fair, Acura and worse, Infinity haven't been doing so well on quality...and I LOVE both of those brands. Infinity isn't horrible, but they've been following the path of Nissan Quality of late. It's a real shame.

God, you used to tell everyone to get a fuckin TL all the time.

Worse than Dave and his Camry obsession for a few years. Who obsesses over a fuckin Camry?

God damnit. Now i'm pissed.

Robert, I'll sell you a perfect shape SL63 with 44K miles for under $40K. .

Hahahaha

I love when non car people give car advice, don't you?

7 get your self a nice used CTS-V, SS sedan, ATS-V, or if you want 2 doors, plenty of American options that will do burnouts till the end of time, and are easy on repairs when you need them.

We just got one of these new TLX A-Specs in this blue...

Damn is it sharp looking. Pictures don't do it justice. And for the first time in like a long time, there's a red leather interior available which also really looks good. With AWD it's $45k. Can't wait for the lease on my current TLX to end so I can turn it on and get this new one.

Ive never seen a red interior i liked, never.

I don't know if my ass just isn't compatible with Japanese seats, but I do not find Japanese cars to be comfortable at all.

They're not trash at all. But not luxury. Cheaper imitations of the Big Boys. MBZ, BMW or Audi. :x

Not to mention Hyundai ripoff of Bentley. :thumbdown

No leg room, pedals too close to the wheel. They're made for little people, at least that used to be the case.

Have you owned an E90 3-series (2006-2012 or whatever?) Because I have, and I wouldn't call them very luxurious. The leather is pretty dry and stiff, and the dashboard isn't exactly feature-filled. The gauges are boring, there's not even a temp gauge......Just a stupid eco meter which nobody looks at. There's not even any mood lighting at all.

Oh and terms of reliability, here's mine:
Cracked head bolt, causing big oil leak (it wasn't torqued down right at the factory).
Couple of cracked oil pan bolts
Couple ignition coils went bad
Rear power sunshade got stuck, needed replacement
Cupholder got stuck
Directional headlight motor failed (I didn't bother replacing it)

So.... Only European can be considered luxury. Ok fine, ill go cry in my Cadillac.

^ Agreed, if you have a black car, it needs red or tan seats to break the monotony.

Those are awesome...they always have been. Why you gotta keep pumping the Sterling brand?

I still say OP should get a 1992 Ford Thunderbird SC

I generally never like a red interior but when combined with black it could be made to work as seen above.

I wonder about that for lease returns also. If someone knew they were unloading it in a year or so then would they concern themselves with doing the right thing for the car or save 20% on fuel.
I've had salesman tell me you don't need to run premium even though the sticker says so.
No I wouldn't take any maintenance advice from a salesman. But what would the damage be if someone ran regular for 20K in a premium required car?

People with leases go two ways. The ones that lease it all the while thinking they may buy it out at the end are more inclined to take care of the car. The ones that know for sure they'll turn it in? Shieeeet. They won't even change the damn oil until they get sick of the "xxxx miles past due" message staring them in the face for months on end. And forget about the air filters.

Now. This shit. I've heard this debate for ages. Even so called PhD type engineers who think they know about cars or whatever still spread misinformation.

There's a big difference between premium fuel recommended and required. The verbage is pretty specific usually. So let's take your RDX. I am pretty sure it says "premium recommended" on the gas door. Could you get away with 87? Yup. But the biggest reason that any given Acura engine makes a smidge more horsepower than what is pretty much the same engine in a Honda is that the fuel/spark timing is programmed to allow a little more performance. In order to get it though, they need a little more preignition resistance, which is what the premium fuel gets you. Run 87 in the Acura, the computer tries for max performance, but if the knock sensor hears some pinging, the computer will retard timing to protect the engine. But by doing so, you lose some horsepower/efficiency. Effectively turning your Acura into a Honda. You can certainly get away with this for quite some time if not forever. But if the knock sensor ever doesn't "hear" the pinging good enough, you will be doing some damage to the engine. To save 20 cents a gallon, you're resting all your hopes of not wiping out an engine that costs usually a minimum of $5k on most cars on the shoulders of a $10 knock sensor.

Now, on a car that says "required" the stakes are higher. This is usually on high performance engines. Most forced induction engines, high compression engines, and some other specific applications use the "required" label. These engines may experience pinging even with 91 or even 93 (yay Nevada!) in the tank. Hot air temperatures like we have in Summer exacerbate the situation. So running 87 here will really make the engine ping like crazy and might...might, be beyond the computer's range of timing adjustment. And then boom, eventually you arrive at major engine damage. And typically, a high performance engine costs even more. So your Acura RDX engine is ~$7k I believe. If you bin the engine on the new NSX, it's ten times as much.

Forget the quality aspect. What the hell has happened to Infinity? Seems like ever since they went Q this and Q that for every model they make, they just don't seem relevant anymore. Or is it just me? But it seems like I hardly ever hear anyone talk about them, say they want one, or whatever.
