thoughts on Ebay fairing kits

hey guys,

just curious your thoughts on ebay fairing kits. (link below) they seem like a good cheap buy but is it like they say, you get what you pay for? thanks

Holy blazes that's cheap. I just bought a set for a 916 of ali baba from China. Not sure how much different it will be but:

$0.02

My set was decent but not great. No where neat the same color as the stock bike. Not a big problem except for the tank doesn't match.

The tail piece cracked around the brake light housing in shipping.

Good luck!

it looks great, but is ABS plastic the kind that basically shatters on impact? i wonder if getting a fiberglass set would be better, since you are looking to replace. unless you just want an inexpensive set

i guess im just looking at an option to change around the look. i now have a black R6 but always wanted a white bike. i see what your saying about the plastic shattering as opposed to fiberglass just cracking. prolly why its only the price it is. lol

Stock fairings are ABS. Most aftermarket race fairings are fiberglass. Fiberglass will almost always craze or surface crack the gel coat after time from flexing. ABS is better for cosmetic care, fiberglass is easy and cheap to repair when damaged.

They are shit. You get what you pay for.

They are ABS, as are the stock ones but they are thinner than stock and depending on the bike they are for, some of the mounts are glued on and are not part of the moulding......and they break off easily.
The always need "help" to fit. You will have to enlarge holes or try to stretch the panels to fit....and they may crack later on.
Paint is never perfect but good for the price.
Some bikes have issues with the belly melting 04-07 CBR1000's and I am sure others too.

.

Oh and you cant return them

I read about there being a clause that makes it so that you have to pay for 1/2 of shipping back to the seller (if theyre overseas) and thats expensive

But I may be wrong

thats not cheap. it's $500

Yup - I think the whole deal breaker would be the potential fitment nightmare, especially for that price

I bought some for my tlr a couple years back and everything fit up good, wasn't perfect but in the end everything was straight.i did to tip it over once and just a small chip of paint so no, they don't shatter.one thing bad is the paint isn't an exact match but it's not too noticeable

thats not cheap. it's $500

Compared to the 700 + tax and shipping honda wants for just an upper cowl(single piece of plastic) on my bike, 500 for a whole set does sound kinda cheap, although 500 is not the cheapest set on ebay.

Hey guys, im also looking for fairings because i went down on my r6s a while ago. I went to the r6 forums and look for fairings that were on sale. I stumbled into a thread talking about aftermarket fairings. People said the exact same things you guys said about the fitment. They recommend auctmart for aftermarket fairings because when they got it the fitment was just right. Its rated 9.5/10. I cant say for myself because i havent bought them yet. I just wanted to share this with fellow barf members that supposedly auctmart is really dependable with their aftermarket fairings.

check it out: http://www.r6-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147854&page=5

DON'T BUY it!!! I bought plastics from HK a few years ago for my F4I and they were total garbage. ABS...more like melted plastic spoons and forks. Fitting was horrible and the color was waaaay off!
they looked good in the pictures, but total shit!
better off with race plastics and cutting the holes for your head lights!

you can even see in my avatar pic, the plastics are a different color than my tank.
...it took me a few weeks of crying about it before I just said fuckit, slapped them on and ride...I will NEVER buy plastics from ebay or HK again!!!

These Fleabay fairings do look great in the photos (with some cool tempting Joe Camel, Marlboro, Fiat, Red Bull, Repsol, Petronas, Monster, etc race bike livery) but in real life comparison to the original OEM plastics they are low quality crap.
