TMJ Lockjaw

have you looked into any oral myofacial therapists? It's essentially physical therapy for your mouth. They seem a bit niche, but I see a few scattered about the bay area when I do a google maps search. I bet none of them take insurance, but you sound like you are beyond the point of whether that should be a consideration...

I think you need to find the right expert. Your doc just doesn't know enough and is essentially giving up after trying to first textbook option.

Progression to the next stage. The articular disc is gone. Maybe it detached and has slipped aside, or it deteriorated. Now the ball of the jaw moves up too far into the socket and the jaw is crooked, and there's bone on bone grinding. It feels weird, always.

I asked my dentist and he is a do everything guy, even joint surgery, but we know and he says, nobody is going to touch that. And then he gave me the 20 min speech on Invisaline is how to fix the problem. I swear, everybody on the planet has a problem that he can fix with Invisiline. I think all of his patients except me have it.

It's just a good thing I'm on a diet and don't plan on eating much until next year.

This is worth a try. Some chriopractors can help or cure, same as the PT. Mine cured my TMJ.

Your dentist makes big money from Invisalign, that's why he's pimping it. Did you try any other suggestions?

@Starpower yes! There is a strong neuromuscular connection between the lower back/pelvis and jaw muscles. It's one of the weirder things you learn about, if you go deep into yoga.

Oh man. I never looked at this thread until now.
I am so sorry this is happening to you.

I cannot imagine.

Hang in there the best you can.

Heard they got some new techniques to replace that disc. Jaw arthritis and joint degeneration is the major suck. If you can get to UCSF TMJ clinic, as above, they would be the ones to tackle this. Muscles can only contract and need daily help to stretch, there are therapies for that. Find the right therapist, even pay cash, your nutrition et al depends on that, with or without surgery. Best wishes.
