So I just got tolled 18 bucks this morning on the bay bridge... while going through the carpool lane, while on my motorcycle... and im almost positive that my bike doesn't have 5 axles... Anyway, I called up fastrak and the guy told me that I wasn't in the carpool lane! WTF... I don't know how the sensor at the lane i was in wouldn't pick up my little card majigger, but the one in "lane 18" would... theyre going to drop the 18 down to 6 dollars... im pissed however! LOL

Side note: don't they take pictures? and shouldn't they be able to show me a picture of my sexy ass riding through the non-carpool lane?

Damn, does this mean I have to start keeping an eye on my Fastrak statements now that I'm riding across?

I went through in my truck last month and gave the guy a $20. He gave me change for a 10 and I didn't realize it until I was already driving away. My fault for not counting it right then and there. Lesson learned...

Dude probably does that on purpose and keeps the profit for himself...:mad

very considerate of you to tip the toll takers :twofinger

Fasttrak screws up all the time. You better make sure they actually change / credit your account. Last time this happened to my friend, they said they would credit it but they never did. He forgot about following up on it.

I've ridden through the carpool lane between 6:30 and 7 pm many times. I don't carry my transponder but I get charged the regular rate, I think they charge from the time the computer recognizes your lic. plate # and not the actual time going through. Either that or they're just screwed up.:laughing

This is one of the things I was talking about over a year ago. I got a ticket for a bike that went through Fastrak that wasn't me. They sent me a picture in the mail of a HD with a blurry license plate. If I actually had a Fastrak account it would have debited me and I never would have known. I wouldn't get one unless I was frequenter of the bridge and I would still check the balance at least once a week.

Yeah turbotiger, i'll check up on that tomorrow around when I posted this, since he (the guy on the phone) said it would take 24 hours for it to take effect... if it doesn't im gonna come down hard on some people! :mad

yeah I remember reading about that, but it didn't really apply so I figured I'd let fellow BB-regulars know about it, just in case.

i was a big proponent of fastrak for a while and though that the people that were afraid of it were being overly paranoid. now that i've heard a few stories going around, i'm a little less enamoured with it. :shrug personally, it's worked wonderfully for me (knock on wood). the only errors fastrak has made have always been in my favor.

the biggest problem seems to be (this is just what i've gathered from threads on barf and other stories i've heard) on the rare occasion that fastrak fucks up. they make it really hard for the fastrak consumer to get re-imbursed. and even then, i've heard a few horror stories about unintended consequences due to charges that have taken money out of a bank account causing that account to be overdrawn and yadda yadda yadda. and fastrak refuses to be accountable for these mistakes. only re-imbursing consumers for the tolls even though it ends up costing way more in time and headaches to contest bad charges. sheesh! but then, unless you wanna always hafta carry money and stop at the booth and do the gloves off wallet search rigamarole while some cager gives you the evil eye, you really don't have much choice.

People kept telling me that I should get a FasTrak, even though I rarely pay bridge tolls more than about half a dozen times a year. It never bothered me that much to spend an extra 20 seconds paying a toll rather than having it automatically deducted from an account. Plus I'll be going through toll booths even less often now that I'm a bit further away from The Bay Area.

This reinforces my belief that you just can't trust FasTrak.

Wow, I'd better go and check out my past statements...

My guess is that FastTrac knows that most people are too busy with life to fight for errors less than $20. Because it's just not worth it...

Why spend an hour on the phone and emailing over $3? They know what they're doing.

Oh great. More highway robbery from big brother..! :rolleyes

??? I commuted to work every weekday but four last month and I only have 6 charges on my statement. That is less than half the toll I should be paying.
