Town Hall Meeting and Riding 9 / 84 & 35 -- REPORT / Heads up!!!!!!!

Well I do believe most of society sees moto people as bad, nuts, crazy or weird.

"Why would anyone risk their life like that?" <- That is pretty common I believe.

I hear it from Mrs Budman so I know it has to be true :laughing

We make for good movies/ TV content.
Media is a powerful force that eclipses fact.

yes, and I totally get it … :thumbup

my attitude is I’m simply gonna try to live up to the expectations of the locals, and take pleasure in the fact that my mere presence in their would-be fiefdom is annoying to them, and enjoy the temporary catch-me-if-you-can “grant-funded” game they want me to play with our CHP when I’m up there.

cuz, you know. apparently I’m incorrigible (incapable of being corrected, reformed, or improved), or at least “passive aggressive.” gotta work on those character defects, according to my betters here on teh BARFs. :facepalm :laughing

@SFMCjohn I am surprised and (almost) speechless when I read your responses here. I'm sincerely shocked.

The meeting was primarily focused on safety. It started with road conditions, then followed with enforcement for speed and reckless driving. Not a single person focused on a specific type of vehicle. Not automobile. Not motorcycle. Not bicycle.

How would you feel:
  • If vehicles went past your house / down your street at 10-50mph over the limit at all hours of the day?
  • There was a weekly crash near your driveway?
  • If vehicles went past your house / down your street with loud exhaust at all hours of the day?

yes, I get it. “this would be a nice place to live, if it weren’t for the tourists.” :rolleyes

I’m shocked that people buy into the rhetoric of the locals, which clearly they feel like they have to employ in order to gin up a situation that forces our CHP to seek grants in order to address the NIMBY complaints.

iow, if it simply wasn’t a business as usual situation on scenic, mountain roads, the CHP would certainly find money in their usual budget to address the issue, pdq. cuz grant funded enforcement is necessarily temporary. cuz we’re talking about relatively low-traffic mountain roads.

anyway, gonna leave my points to stand going forward. our work here is being reviewed, I hear, and don’t wish my mild points to detract from the sort of progress our motorcycle community always has to work so very hard to achieve, thanks to people like me, apparently, non-ambassador that I am. :clown

The same goes for why young people start smoking cigarettes.

Because they make you look cool.

Quite seriously, there was a set of anti-smoking TV ads in the UK many years ago, and while most of them talked about how bad smoking is for you, the only one the tobacco companies fought against was the one that showed a cool teenage boy (dressed cool, hanging out with with cool friends, doing cool stuff and smoking) and a cute girl comes up to him and they're flirting and and at some point he goes in for a kiss, and she smells the tobacco on his breath and disgustedly goes "Ew!" and walks away. The end voiceover was something like "Smoking. It isn't worth it."

The tobacco companies fought HARD against that, because it's the only one that might actually cause a young smoker to think "Maybe the tradeoff to looking cool is that I won't get the girl (or guy)" and that's WAY more important than looking cool.

Cigarette smokers absolutely DO look cool - even I think so, and I haven't smoked for 45 years and I have known more than one lung cancer victim... I wish I could look that cool, so I ride a bike, in a futile attempt to get people I don't know to say "Look at him going fast - he's so cool".

Anyway...........
