Triumph reliability

Those guys are great. Dropped off my Tiger for servicing and not only did they give me a lamborghini for a loaner, they mowed my lawn and felated my Golden Retriever at no extra charge!

they gave me a prius cuz im asian :cry

As BJ Boy said , my R/R failed but it was covered under warranty. Other than that, 17K trouble free miles. In fact, it is up for sale as I trade up to a 1050 Tiger!
I have it back to mostly stock with a full Race Tech moded front fork (finally sorted!) and a few goodies. Interested?:cool

'02 Speed Triple, bought new. 50k+ miles. Most reliable bike I've ever owned. Plenty of dealers. Get the Striple.

I was wondering where my lambo went

'98 Trophy, 34k miles. One bad coil.

Three months in the shop (CalMoto) waiting on rare plastics, they loaned me a F800S and when that bike leaked after 3,000 miles, a Tiger 1050. All other issues were my fault or suspension upgrades.

Honestly, I3 engines are just too much fun, you should try a bigwheel instead. :twofinger

+1 on calmoto
They are a BMW and Triumph dealer and I have repeated good experience with them. Loaner bikes for service are key for me!

I had an 03 Speed Triple that had about 60k when I wrecked it. Never had any problems.
My old roomate still has his 01 Sprint R/S with somewhere over 100k without any issues.

As it's been said before, they are about as reliable as anything else out there.

and tri-valley moto in livermore is also a triumph/bmw dealer. i think all bmw dealers give out service loaners.

Had a Daytona CE. Beautiful, well built, and CalMoto took care of me. Only had one issue that needed to be addressed by the warranty (clutch throw out bearing). '04 it was a bit of a delay in getting parts overseas (less than a week, which is still miles ahead of Italian manufacturers). I would definitely get another Triumph.

Oh, and the dealer network is what led me to the Beemer too.

Trivalley Moto has never given me a service loaner ever.

Once the R/R has been replaced the Street Triple will run forever.

I don't know about the '08 Speed Triple, but the my '09 Street Triple R had the well known rectifier issue (overheating). Dealer/factory replaced it with a MOSFET r/r, but would not replace the battery killed by the original faulty r/r :mad. Other than that, the bike is flawless.

Don't buy one :x

I had a 955 Daytona, after 60,000 miles, it had broken 1 clutch cable, which I replaced with one off an XR600 with a little modification, and it wore out the full floating front rotors, made this chinga-chinga noise coming down the streets, and I replaced those with some used ones off of Triumph Rat forum, looked brand new, for $105 for the set. It never even needed a valve adjustment in the 60,000 miles that were on it. A very reliable bike, and I'd buy another Triumph in a minute for the right deal.

It's an availability thing. If they've got a loaner available, you should be able to get it. I'm a regular there and I've gotten them and also been told there's nada.

As far as the striple, watch out for the Lucas electrics, they're horrible and will short out on you as soon as fog rolls in. :twofinger :rofl

ok, so what's up with valve adjustments... for any bike, actually... are these not mandatory service intervals requiring a visit to the dealership?

Checking clearance is required, but the valve clearance may not need adjustment every check. Of course, doing all the work to get at the valve train is almost as expensive/time consuming as adjusting them.

7K+ miles on my '10 Street Triple so far. No issues at all. From what I've read, R/R failure is the most common problem, but not something that goes bad on every bike.

:ride

I've got 2 Triumphs, '08 Daytona 675 and '11 (really a 2010) Speed Triple. My R/R on the 675 never went bad but I replaced it with one from a CBR600RR, just to avoid the problem all together. I've got the MOSFET R/R they're using for the warranty replacement to put on the S3 after the warranty runs out. It's the same one the ~05 R1 uses. No problems out of the S3. If you get a new Daytona or Street Triple, it will come with the MOSFET R/R already so you won't have to deal with that problem. Another known problem for the '06-'08 675 is the cam chain tensioner. It uses a spring and it sucks. Simple fix with a $50 APE CCT or $105 for the Triumph Race CCT, and both make it a manual adjust.

Had to make 2 trips to the dealer for warranty work on the 675. 1st was the gear position sensor went bad. 2nd was it wouldn't idle. Ended up being unbalanced throttle bodies.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Triumph, especially the Daytona 675R or the Speed Triple R :)
