Trolling and Debating. What's the Difference?

I truly don't understand the difference between a "troll" and someone who simply is participating in a good debate.

Why is it that as soon as someone posts something, even if its in response and contradictory to someone else posts, he is immediately a troll and people demand he be silenced/banned?

I have learned a lot on BARF since I joined simply by offering up my opinions and gaining the knowledge of others responses, yet am often labeled a troll.

HELP!
 
Perspective. If you have a different viewpoint than many of the knowitall clowns on here, you get called a troll, by people that like to troll, to another persons perspective....

That said, i like your points, but you are pretty annoying :twofinger :laughing

You can make it simpler than that.

If you're not a Constitutional Libertarian you are a troll.

That or people are just fucking with you because you're new and jumped straight into the Sink. Haha!

I dunno, he posted a bunch of unrelated political tripe, along with a "What are you're top 5? I could make some suggestion of what I think yours would be, but I'd probably be violating the TOS, and it also wouldn't sound nice." which certainly sounds like baiting.

Then there was the whole PM bit, where you're trying to get PMs posted publicly while blaming the other poster for it.

OP: Don't want to be labeled a troll? Don't obviously, blatantly try to get people's goat.

When a new member comes out swinging like that, and making TOS enforcement noises, it's natural to wonder which banned troll they are. :teeth

You do have to admit though, that if you have a "non-BARF normal" opinion, you immediately get piled on and baited/trolled to no end. I know I do, and in some cases it's enough to make me say fuck it and not provide information to the forum. Hence why I no longer post in the LEO section -- at least not very often. I got tired of the trolling/baiting, people can figure the shit out themselves or ask someone else. :)
 
It helps to have a lengthy signature and a creative, introspective avatar with the words "mod" or "founding member" under it. Then you will not be called a troll.

No, the LEO Forum is the place where people who hate cops go to cops to ask for advice on how to get out of trouble for something they do in front of the cops. Then when they get told they're fucked, they go back to hating cops.

Thanks all for the input. Noted and understood. Call me a troll all you want, but I'm on BARF to meet people and have a good time reading others ideas.

Just as an examplatory question. Isn't what you just post above trolling me? Commenting on your opinion of me (which is fine), but not expecting me to have a rebuttal or different opinion? Your baiting me into contesting something that was not even in this thread? Your guilty of your own description of baiting and trolling.
