Turn off the high beams at night.

Fine, I'll edit the thread title from :Turn off the high beams to Turn off the high beams at night, in traffic, when following someone.

We can all be happy now!

If you bothered to read the thread and the responses you would have known that no one was bitching about using highs during the day time. Mcarb has been consistent from his first post to the one that you quoted and then decided to bust his balls over with that crap about a major study disagreeing with him. :rolleyes

I dunno! Unless it is bright and sunny at 10PM in Enchanter-land! :rolleyes

At night, at night, at night.

If I am driving AT NIGHT and the moron behind me has his highbeams on, they are reflecting into my eyes through all of my mirrors. So I can either aim the mirrors away so I am not blinded or just deal with it. Let's look at these options:

1. Aim the mirrors away: Now I can't see you. You're behind me on your well lit motorycle but I am avoiding looking at or near you becasue if I do, I can't see anything anywhere. So you decide to pass me on the right and since I now have no mirrors, I change lanes and KILL YOU.

2. Deal with it: Hey, there is either a motorycle with his highbeams behind me or a fucking aliean ship is trying to buttram me. Either way, I am annoyed and completely blind to what is around me. Hmmmmm, where did the ligths go? Did they go somewhere? I can;t tell because I am still comptlely fucking blind. Guess it's time to change lanes. What was that bump? I'd look in my mirrors to find out what I JUST KILLED, but I'm still blinded from that goddam Spaceship.

And furthermore, what the fuck are you changing the title for? I think this advice and request can be carried a little further than your ultra descriptive revision of my title. If you're going to change it, how about just adding "at night" or "at night around other people"? Just because you have no reading comprehension skills and had your ass handed to you by several people, doesn't mean you have to get all butthurt and change the title to make you feel like less of a douche.

This title changing shit has to stop. You're a fucking moderator. That shouldn't give you the right to randomly change thread titles and content to suit your needs.

There are more than a few responses in this thread commenting on daytime high beam use. The post I quoted could have been interpreted either way (day or night). The thread title was also misleading, so I fixed it.
:rolleyes <- I can use it too.

The title change was meant in humor. I guess at least two people didn't see it that way. I'll change it again for you.

You and Traq seem to think that this is an argument. I thought it was a discussion. I'm not emotionally attached or involved in this thread. I didn't get all butthurt nor do I feel like a douche. And if you actually think that a few posts in this thread constitute "getting my ass handed to me" then we have different ideas of what that actually means. It's going to take a lot more than words on a forum to get me riled up like you and Traq seem to be.

BARF threads frequently stray from the original intention of the first post. Some get way off base, others just a little bit. I file this one in the latter.

At night, at night, at night.

To clarify, I agree that using high beams at night can be really stupid and inconsiderate.

k, just because everyone seems to bitch about bright lights... ill try to avoid turning them on going around a corner... since the light faces where the bike is facing, and not where it's going...

it was nice knowing you guys... ill be the next one you see dead on the street because everyone says "don't use your high beems, it pissses people off"

i can care less if it pisses you off... if it gets me home safe then i'm going to do it.

You may also be the next one I see dead because I was so blinded by you that I didn't notice you coming up next to me and turned into you. If you really think blinding everyone around is the only way to ride safe, perhaps you should give up riding.

Enchanter, my point was merely that you, as a mod, shouldn't go around changing the titles of people's threads to suit your needs or to make a joke. It seems to be happening a lot lately and quite frankly, it's not cool. In this case, it really wasn't that big of a deal, but at some point it gets to be.

As for this being an argument, I don't think it is. I think it is a discussion between inteligent people. And I'm winning the discussion. LOL

I personally use them for heavy splitting in twilight and sunset light conditions. The former to be more visible to half-asleep drivers and the latter to be more visible to drivers blinded by the sunset. Seems to work for me.

As for night... you might as well be just another car to drivers. If you need to split, it means that your headlights (highbeams or not) are just one set of many that are reflected on the driver's mirrors. Very poor noise/signal ratio. Alternately, if it's not heavy traffic, then you should have plenty of space to maneuver around cars if you're in a hurry. Just no need for highbeams at night unless you're on an unlit road. :shrug

:rofl powned :rofl

After reading the WHOLE of this thread it did ineed seem as if you were not only arguing for the sake of such but were coming off as a little arrogant and misinformed because you couldn't have read all of the first post. Worst of all is the fact that you say your not emotionally involved in this thread yet continue to reply in a very defensive manner:wow

I think i have it different than most of you city drivers... Driving down to Hollister after work there are other cars on the road, but NO street lights (atleast where I live)... so the high beem is usually a must to be able to see where i'm going.

mcarb, if you're "so blinded that you didn't see me", maybe you should give up driving? since you can't seem to be able to drive while lights are around you.

:)

So are you talking about only at NIGHT!!!!! :laughing

Easy Mike, take it easy, take a couple of deeeeeep breaths.............

Seriously bro, I'm on your side.

:rolleyes <- I can use it too.

Oh, so you are capable of learning from others? Then maybe you should learn how to not be arrogant, belligerent, and condescending in every single post you make?

At least you've been consistent in the two years I've been here though, I'll give you that. :rolleyes (just for you)

And trust me, if I COULD ignore you I would have a long time ago, but unfortunately you're a moderator and I cannot.

Usually in this case, the "pack" leader will have highbeams on so I'll just leech off of their lights for visibility. If they don't, I'll just lead the pack with my highbeams.

B on B, first off weren't you the one who was going to leave this forum because there was too much drama? Second, if you ride an R6 you shouldn't need the high beam at all. I ride basically the same bike. Well actually it has more of a rake angle and these days I'm riding in the dark when I leave for work and ride in the dark back. I never need the high beam and there is one street light as soon as I'm off the freeway all the way home. Granted, knowing the roads I ride in the dark helps alot but there's this little switch on the left handlebar that's actuated by your thumb.................:laughing

And no, where I live doesn't have hardly any straight roads.

Oh and I usually do turn my high beams on during the daytime.

I like you gambit ;)

and ya i was going ot leave, but i have too much dead time at work to not visit this place :thumbup

ps. it's a GSX-R 6, not r6 ;) I find that turning corners, the light points off the turn, but if i pop on either the high beem, or hit my "PASS" trigger, the light goes a lot higher and around the corner of where I need to go. I know the roads well, but road kill and field mudd seems to appear and disappear on a daily basis.

(i just like going against the grain to get a rise out of everyone here... it makes for good laughs :rofl)
