ULTRALIGHTS

Ultralight flying represents one of the fastest and purest ways to
experience the joys of aviation. From powered-parachutes and trikes to
traditional fixed wings and even amphibians and rotorcraft,
ultralights are fun, exciting, and in most cases, remarkably
affordable. Flying ultralights is not a step up or down, but a step
into a completely different and exciting sector of the flying
community.

In my research I've found more than two dozen ultralights that can
qualify under FAR Part 103, the rules that govern ultralights...
However I found only a couple of these machines that can make weight
and speed of Part 103 with a proven four stroke engine... The
UltraCruiser is one of them...

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE FAR PART 103 COMPLIANT?
Most general aviation aircraft in the United States are registered to
the FAA with respective tail numbers. The FAA allows for aircraft
meeting certain weight, fuel, and airspeed requirements to be flown
under Part 103 of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR). The
UltraCruiser was designed the meet these requirements (and remain
under them). Given that, the UltraCruiser can be easily constructed to
be Part 103 compliant. This means, in short, that it may be flown
without a pilot's license, medical certificate, or previous aircraft
experience. The UltraCruiser was designed to be easy to fly, and many
customers build one as their first ever aircraft.

THE DEAL
In 2023 I bought a used Hummel Ultra Light Cruiser kit valued at
$36,000 for $17,800... it was 90% completed which means a sweat equity
worth over 400 hrs build time... yet it was for sale for an
unbelievable price so low I thought it was a scam...

Canadian Deal
45HP Casler Eng $5,800
Prince Prop 0.0 prop
Kit 90% Complete $12,000
Trailer Wheels Tires 250.0
Total 17,800

Hummel Factory
45HP Casler Eng $5,800
Prince Prop $1,100 prop
Kit 90% Complete $28,442
Trailer $800
Total $36.142
Savings $18,342

DISTANCE
The chief hurdle was 1,700 miles to its location in Regina Canada and
then another 1,700 towing it home behind my 2017 Camaro...

BOARDER
The American made Hummel Ultralight kit provides all the prefabricated
materials needed to complete the airframe or 90% towards an aircraft.
Airframe together with engine, instruments, propeller, and avionics
makes it 100% complete should have no problem crossing the boarder
with a bill of sale but customs said no... So after hiring the good
people at Pacific Customs Brokers, my Hummel Ultra Cruiser was finally
granted permission to be transported across the US boarder... All it
took was 39 pieces of paper work and a total of $513 Brokers fees plus
$35.00 Carrier fee...

WHAT FEATURES ARE SPECIAL ABOUT AN ULTRACRUISER???
1)The UltraCruiser is an all metal Part 103 legal ultralight
2)Four Stroke power of a reliable Scott Casler engine with dual ignition...
3)Harry Riblett GA30-618 airfoil is very docile and easy to fly
4)Low Wing loading provides remarkable performance with just 45 HP...
5)6.5 ft. track and low CG for superior ground handling
6)Factory owners are available for customer support
7)Full size Parts plans on 24″x36″ CAD drawn pages.
8)Detachable wings for easy storage

The UltraCruiser was a design that looked like a warbird aircraft!
UltraCruiser is built mostly of 6061- T6 aluminum alloy that is
strong and easier to work with...

The Hummel airplanes are riveted aluminum low-wing, single-seat

254 pounds? Cool stuff.

What's the speed / range for something like that? I'd imagine it's no fun to fly in anything other than clear weather, too...

Very cool.

The build vid was good. :thumbup

Polishes up pretty damn nice!!

I've been flying gliders now for the last two years as an add on to an existing powered rating. Ultralights for some reason scare me a little.

For the love of V4s... don't shoot your eye out, kid.
