Update: Ticketed for 124 mph...

I appreciate you coming in here and posting the update, knowing you will probably get some harsh responses. You did the right thing by getting an attorney, IMO, for that violation.... however at this point it's my opinion that you're just dragging it on.

Think about it like this: By the time you go to trial, your 30 day suspension would be over with and you wouldn't owe your lawyer another dime. As it sits now, you will have to wait until December, pay your attorney more, thus increasing the overall cost when you are convicted of the violation (and quote me, you will be convicted...), and then you'll still have to wait 30 days before you can drive again.

That means no driving on christmas, new years, etc. If I were you I'd talk to your attorney about just getting it over with and saving yourself and the court system the time.

Nonetheless, thanks for the post.... always interesting to hear the outcome instead of just the violation.

I dont think delaying this case will help either.

In this case, the delay serves me well. As I mentioned in the related post, my job requires travel. Delaying the suspension to December and the beginning of January helps tremendously as required travel for work is reduced during that time of year.

While I have yet to disclose my situation to my superior, I have relayed this story to my (2) co-workers. It turns out, my co-workers were both amused and understanding and will provide the assistance I need to cover my travel arrangements if my licensed is suspended.

This situation will/has cause(d) pain in the wallet, perhaps 30 days of inconvenience and mind-numbingly slow speeds. Life could be worse. I have already moved on. :thumbup

30 days of mind numbingly slow speeds? LMAO I suggest you rewrite that to THREE YEARS of mind numbingly slow speeds and get used to it. Incidentally my gas mileage has improved 20% since my ticket.

You will carry that violation for three years. It is probably two points. You get another ticket in the next three years and you will know what expensive really means. Do yourself a favor and go to the the DMV website and check the penalties and also check with your insurer. You can LOSE your insurance for too many points. You are not "out of the woods>" You are deep in the woods with a flashlight with worn batteries. You need to watch your path and conserve energy for a longgggggg time

Indeed, I did not mean to associate the "mind numbingly slow speeds" with the 30 day limit. I've been driving like a grandma since I got the ticket. As I indicated, I will be taking punishment in the wallet. But, I have been insured with State Farm for 25 years and have a "guaranteed renewable" policy. I have been to the DMV website and I have checked the penalties. I understand the need for folks to stand upon their soapbox and berate those that are less fortunate. Let me just say "thank you" to those of you who held your editorials and provided very useful information.

let us know how much that guaranteed renewable policy will be after this incident hits the radar.

Hey Man, I ain't no angel on the road either, but a buck 24?

"Berate the less fortunate?" In my mind, you are fortunate you didn't kill yourself or someone else out there.

That cop quite possibly saved you from yourself by pulling you over.

This is what we call a reality check.

Good Luck , homie!

for my 250, progressive wouldn't care about a ticket for 100+ and a normal speeding ticket, both in the past year :wtf

Half the battle of winning in court is putting up a fight.

Basically you're betting/praying that the cop doesn't appear or the radar unit was not certified. I'm not sure what other defense strategy you have in the bag.

Best of luck. 30 days license suspension and a fine ain't the end of the world.

Be prepared to face the wheel.

^^ i know that judges may impose larger fines for taking to trials. good luck man.

That is when you hear the attorney of record say on the record: "Your Honor, I know that you wouldn't punish my client for exercising his constitutional right to a jury trial."

Were you popped for an infraction or a misdo?

Scotty

Sorry. They don't update their records daily. Or weekly. Sometimes every six months, sometimes only yearly. They WILL find it, they always do, and you WILL hear about it.

Fixed! :rofl

(Just couldn't resist, Ernie! :laughing)

Yeah I never should have told you that when I drive over the Bay Bridge at the 55 mph speed limit I feel like I am on a Ninja 250 on the front straight at Thunderhill while flocks of gsxr 1000s fly by. I am the ONLY person on the Bay Bridge who goes the speed limit.

I have one ticket, which I took care of with traffic school. What I mean is that I got a quote from them, and then was curious as to what a ticket would do to my rates. When I saw that a single speeding ticket wouldn't do anything, I tried 2. When I saw that didn't do anything, I tacked on a 100+. It was still the same rate as with a clean record.

I don't think I would be quite stupid enough to get caught for both of those in 6 months ;)

You wasted your money with the lawyer. No judge is going to cut you a break with that speed. Your only chance is if the officer does't show and you could have done that yourself for no money.

I'd be willing to wager that the officer is gonna show. Sorry bro.

You probably got popped for 22348(b), which is a 2-point violation, and I believe (but am not sure), will stay on your record for seven years, not three.

It is considered a major violation by most insurers, similar to reckless driving or DUI. Prepare for a major insurance hike. Progressive counts this violation as "speeding", (i.e. 22349) rather than as a separate violation. I believe it's a glitch in their computer system. If you are convicted, you may want to check Progressive's rates.

Good luck.

when I was looking at progressive's rates for motorcycle insurance they had a separate category for 100+, but it still didn't bump the rate at all for the 250. even with a 100+ and a normal speeding in the past 6 months, the rate was the same as a clean record... and no, I did NOT get either of these violations, I was just curious.

so what section code did you get written up for Junkie?

Hence my signature.....I believe speeding is speeding but not always reckless.

I haven't gotten a ticket in just over a year, and that got traffic schooled. Progressive doesn't ask for section codes, I was just seeing what it would cost me if I were to get the tickets.

I got a 2 point violation back in 2001 for reckless driving aka lane sharing, shrug. but my rates didn't jump too high. I still have the reckless driving points on my record and my Geico rate for my 1098 is approx. 1200 annually.

That's the silver lining in this situation. I was cited for 22349 which is an infraction. Hence the comment by the judge that the speed was "incongruous" with the code violation. Even if the CHP shows, it won't hurt much to play the odds.
