V-twin or 4 banger preference and why?

Ride them All Singles, twins (V and parallel, and boxers), inline triples and fours.
Ride dirt and pavement.
How would anyone learn anything, if the don't do everything?

Stock bike.
Twin for practicality reasons. Fewer parts, less time in maintenance/easier to work on, feels faster in urban settings, generally narrower (sweet for splitting), generally cheaper in the used market.

Source: owned an I4, currently owns a thumper and vtwin.

I like most bikes having owned dirt singles (2 smokers), triples (Mach III), & tones of IL4's.

Haven't tried ANY twins yet; someone lend me yours...:teeth

You're shitting me, a guy with more miles on the track than most guys have on the street and you've never ridden a twin? If you are ever going south to Santa Barbara or Ventura, take the first Santa Maria Exit, i'm right there within 1/4 mile of the freeway and the Harleysville and Yamaha Dealers, and take my KTM for a putt. Just wipe the spooge off it before you bring it back. I can almost guarantee you'll like it. No, love it.

Damn, Lou. Another sign that we might be related. I've owned and ridden almost everything, from a Bultaco360 Astro, with the shifter and brake both on the right side, to Harleys, CBRs, Ninjas and everything else. How are you supposed to like something, if you haven't tried everything?

I'm not a track person. As such, I4's just annoy me on a bike. Had a '71 CB500 and a '90-something FZR. I've ridden a pretty old school Gixxer and some other I4 UJM's here and there over the years.

Getting my SV650 was a revelation. It was so much more usable on the street. Probably made me a better rider as such.

I've also ridden a Triumph Dayton triple in the twisties once too. That was smooth & linear, also preferable to an I4. I guess I just don't care for them. Maybe on the track i'd change my mind. But even my thumper is more preferable to me on the street.

I likes me twins.
Easy maintenance, and on the street, I like torque over horsepower.

If I was ever to trade a twin for a four banger, it would be a V4.
