It seems like every other movie, book, or tv show is about vampires these days. Anybody else burnt out yet?

if you know me then you know that i fucking LOVE vampires. but yes im starting to get burnt out. :( now EVERYBODY loves vampires and that all anyone can even talk about. kinda annoying. :| and the shows coming out look like crap. i like twilight and all but nothing beats Anne Rice novels.

anne rice's novels were and always will be the best. the rest is just trying to capatalize on the twihlight crap. always enjoyed mrs rice's books though. especially memnoch

I read Interview With the Vampire sometime around 1982. What a great book.

Near Dark absolutely rocked the genre around '85 or '86. "I hate it when they ain't been shaved." :laughing

Vampires make for interesting characters, nothing wrong with that.

memnoch was really REALLY good. kinda gave a different perspective on god and the devil

That was the only Anne Rice book I read sometime around 1982. :laughing

Lestat and the Queen were good too, but I tried to read Feast of All Saints and couldn't stand it. Don't think I've picked up a book by her since...

I wish I still had that old Interview book, IIRC it was a solid white paperback with an AMAZING cover picture that had a seated vampire, with the young girl vampire on the side, and a standing vampire behind the seat. One of the vampires was turning his head to the side, the photo just *leaped* out and grabbed you. In that case, you can indeed judge a book by its cover. :p

I did a google search but couldn't find that cover photo from my old book, dangit. The later versions just had a bland cover with words, no photo.

Not many people were into vampires until that idiotic film Twilight came out, then all of a sudden it became like another trend or some bs, I hate when those way too preppy, wannabe gangsters, go for a freaking trend, especially one I like, they always kill it, murdering assholes :mad thanks to the new twilight movie, werewolves will be targeted next :cry

i also tried reading non-vampire books from her and i admit it was alil tough to get into it.

but theres a ton of vampire books by her. that have some sort of order so you dont get confused.

Interview with The Vampire
The Vampire Lestat
The Queen of the Damned
The Tale of the Body Thief
Memnoch the Devil
The Vampire Armand
Merrick
Blood and Gold
Blackwood Farm Blood Canticle

then there are single novels and by the end of the chronicles its starting tying into the mayfair witches

i tired to find the cover you were talking about but i couldnt. maybe its a European version?

I can't find it either. Perhaps it was licensed by the original photographer back when Anne was an unknown author, then after it got popular they had a royalty conflict so she went to a solid cover with no pic. Because DAMN that was a cool photo!

Police: 'Vampire Diaries' Actresses Flashed Drivers

Posted: 4:14 pm EDT September 11, 2009Updated: 3:19 am EDT September 12, 2009
ATLANTA -- Five actresses and a cameraman from the CW show “The Vampire Diaries” were arrested and charged after police said the actresses were dangling off a Georgia overpass and flashing drivers.

Several drivers called 911 on Aug. 22 to report seeing the young women flashing drivers on I-75 from the side of the Rumble Road overpass just north of Macon.

The women told Monroe County authorities they were just filming for the show.

Deputies arrested cameraman Tyler Shields, 27, and actresses, Nina Dobrev, 20, Sara Canning, 22, Kayla Ewell, 24, Krystal Vayda, 23, and Candice Accola, 22.

They were charged with disorderly conduct and released on bond.

According to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, no one involved would comment.

Very much so. I'm beginning to hate vampires right now.

I saw a preview for a pretty cool lookin werewolf movie coming out later this year that stars Anthony Hopkins and other people whose names are escaping me, but its set in the 1800's and the cinematography looks awesome. Hopefully with it not beeing directed at tweens it wont ruin em. :thumbup

Zombies unfortunately I believe to become the next victim of fad movies and shows. :mad

Vampire entertainment ended for me with Forever Knight. Vampire cop. How can you ever beat that?

I find it puzzling to think of vampires as a recent entertainment trend. Dang I was watching Dracula black-and-white movies when I was a tiny tyke, and they scared/thrilled me like crazy. Those Bela Lugosi movies were old as the hills too, WWII era. The first version of Salem's Lot (which I saw when it debuted on TV and just about cried from fear) was so scary they edited it for future showings.

The Hammer films with Christopher Lee were absolutely terrifying for a wee lad. I can still vividly recalll being frightened out of my wits by those Hammer flicks, back in the day when we only had 3 channels and The Late Movie was a pretty big deal. :laughing

I can even remember Love at First Bite in the '70s (creatures of the night...shut up), Near Dark in the '80s, Interview and Gary Oldman in the '90s, all pretty popular.

There was a wicked gangster-type movie where a female vampire was kicking ass on gangsters but I forget the name. Plus a weird TV series called Cliffhanger that was like 4 shows in one, and one of the shows was a Dracula adaptation. And of course....Buffy the Vampire Slayer which led to Angel, which was all the rage among the high-schoolers at that time sorta like Twilight is now. (when I was in high school it was Vamp and Fright Night).

Now Twilight is the latest torch carrier. Vampires suck, but people like them. :p

"I Vant to suck your blooood!" - Bela Lugosi

Speaking of Vampires...this is too funny...

It's not like the idea hasn't been around forever, I just can't figure out why every writer hack in hollywood copies everyone else. It just strikes me that one person was sitting around saying "Hmm...we need an elixir to combine sex and violence. I've got it vampires!" Then everyone else jumped on the bandwagon.
