VFR 1200F First Ride

i bet that bike would make for a sweet proper homemade streetfighter

The automatic transmission should reduce apprehension among less experienced riders and more intriguing to someone who may not feel they have the skill to make shifts, use the clutch effectively and generally operate a motorcycle of this caliber. It is all about making the riding experience available to more people, because operating a traditional motorcycle is something the more experienced riders among us might take for granted.

I'm not sure it would be a good idea to put a rider who is uncomfortable with a clutch on a 550lb 1200CC sport tourer.

Edit: Although I think the fairing is a turnoff, I will say that the side-bags and top case really help finish off the look of the bike.

too bad they couldn't come in with something without all of that extra heft.

Well I guess if the public likes 530 pound VFR800's, a 600+ pound 1237cc V4 is almost emaciated. It really is quite svelte compared to the ST1300. I hope they look better in real life then the shots, kind of the opposite effect of a 1098.

I would LOVE to streetfighter the thing out. Single round headlight, renthals, take off all the fairings and add hard bags.

a: The price: "If you have to ask, you can't afford it".

b: I think the advertised weight is now a wet weight, rather than a dry weight, so not so bad.

c: I'm not tradin in the connie on that...

In the surprise of the season, journos invited to test bikes are generally complimentary about them!

Not if it was a Buell! :laughing

Here's another article from Motorcycle.com...they guess that fully optioned out the damned thing would be close to $20k!

The thing should have come standard with heated grips, centerstand and self cancelling signals.

Instead of an optional fancy automatic tranny they shoulda offered an electrically adjustable rear suspension like BMW's ESA.

"The VFR's biggest hurdle to success might be the MSRP Honda will soon be announcing. We'll guess the standard version will start at around $15,000. Add options like the DCT, hard luggage, heated grips and centerstand, it might be nudging the $20K mark. "

I don't see anything good coming from auto-trannys on motos. Doesn't that just allow for uncoordinated people to pilot them? Also, the "new look" on some of the exhausts I've been seeing are a bit off...

God ,I'm getting tired of all the weenies griping about 600lbs being so GD heavy. Chances are you're never going to want a GT type bike anyway, so stick to the featherweights. As someone who regularly rides a 575LB sport tourer with 116Hp , I'll gladly trade up to 650 lbs and 160Hp. These are not race bikes. If you cant have the time of your life on that "pig" you aint got skilz my friend.
Me and my Buds "owned" Berryessa before the GP and I had a blast chasing R6s and ZX7RRs. If they were riding at 6/10ths I was riding at 7/10s to keep the same pace.
Like the man said back in the day, Its more fun to go fast on a slow bike that slow on a fast one.

Thank you for saying that.

I am tired of every new bike post having people complaining about the weight....weight is just a number people, ride the damn bike, then decide....especially if it is not a track/racebike. If you honestly make a statement like "I would consider that bike, looks like a great sport tourer, but it is just too heavy" and you have never even ridden the bike....you need to get you head out of the numbers and go ride some different bikes.:thumbup

The release was at a racetrack for christsake, the writers even say it handles very well considering its 600lbs........yet 75% of the people here seem to cry about the weight being a problem for them....before you've even seen it in person, drives me nutty....its a VRF....not the new MotoGP bike....:rolleyes
