Video games for race/track training?

Straight up for the PS2 TT sucks... When you tip the bike in too hard... you tuck the front... On Moto GP 2-3 it is pretty realistic as far as a bike... you can late brake and slide the bike. Does not have all the great tracks... I think Moto GP 4 has laguna... Show you the driection of the tracks and such but not really training... Cuz at Laguna I do a 1:34 on a real bike but on the game I and can do even better... I am thinking about sneaking in my VG times for AMA qualifying... :)

agreed regarding TT and yes, the most "racing-like" moto games i found were Namco's MotoGP for the PS2. the newer ones by THQ have more bells and whistles, but funky physics and controls (to me). i have a feeling the car based games are far more accurate as they're much more popular and therefore spend a ton more on development.

it'd be harder to replicate with the current bike games, but it'd be interesting to do a head to head comparison with a car. i ran a stock M3 in Forza 2 last night to a 1:39 at Laguna, but I've no idea how feasible that is in reality. Certainly seems pretty quick for a stock street car, but I've never driven a track so I wouldn't really know.

yeah really played the new moto gp 4 the other night and the bikes do not work as well as Moto gp 2-3 ...TT sucks if you think it is good you have to try the namco game... Cuz it rocks silly...

i didnt read any replies to say one thing...... TOURIST TROPHY for ps2 is the sickest... great bikes... realistic physics and im just waiting for polyphony to come out with a sequel.... that alone is enough to hold onto my ps3........ i just love riding on TT figuring out all the different bikes........ seeing how they react to different rider positions and basically pushing the virtual envelope..... AND ITS GOT MOTARD RIDING STYLE......

have you even tried the namco game? The moto gp game... feels WAAAy more real... more race like... the bike does not just fall over all limp biscuit style and that silly flop...

i have tried the namco game adn i come to one conclusion.... who here rides a motoGP bike? not me..... just for the sake of understanding the rhythm and flow of a track is enough for me to stick with TT.... i like the real licenced bikes..... and the tracks... and physics...... the crashing part isnt realistic at all but again... who is training to crash?

I won't make a long post weighing the pros and cons of MotoGP and Tourist Trophy. I will simply say that I have spent extensive time playing both games, and I will NEVER play another MotoGP game as long as I live. It was not only a terrible motorcycle racing game, it was just a terrible game.

Tourist Trophy is best for working on your lines. It has taught me a lot about braking/turn-in points and how to carry speed into a curve. The physics (like braking while leaned over) aren't quite accurate, but they more than good enough. If you have a skilled partner you can even practice passing at different parts of the track. You can kind of do it with the AI, but the AI is slow so you really don't get much from it when you start doing really fast laps. The main point is, Tourist Trophy has the best track representation, best handling, and is the most true-to-life of any motorcycle game ever made, car physics or not. I've played them all, and this is my choice, hands down.

edit: if you doubt me, go to You Tube and look up videos from MotoGP and Tourist Trophy. You tell me which one looks like the better racing game.

I've got MotoGP3 and TT and they're both fun, but I much prefer TT. I play MotoGP if I'm racing against my 8 year old son because it's easy for him to be competitive, and I play TT when it's just me. I still think one of these game companies should be able to do better than what we have to choose from though.

i don't quite understand how TT can be considered a good simulation if the physics "when leaned over aren't quite accurate". that's about the only time it matters for a bike!

TT is a great game for posing, taking staged pics of all the sweet replica bikes and for having Sears Point. but they really got the physics wrong. being able to comparison ride such a wide variety is cool too. hopefully they'll do better with TT2 on the PS3 if it ever happens.

like craig, what i enjoyed about racing namco's versions 2 and 3, was that when all the rider aids are turned off, the racing really feels like racing. front end slides that are recoverable, spinning up the rear to square off corners, draft passing, block passing, having to climb the ladder up to better teams over multiple seasons, etc. it won't however, give you a great, first person simulation of track riding. the car games do that way better.

like i said before and as others have also mentioned, the bike games simply aren't getting enough development money compared to the car versions. hopefully they'll get closer with more releases, but the market just isn't big enough for them at this time.

the console racing sims are still way behind in terms of authenticity compared with previous PC titles, but those are even more on the endangered species list

so if let's say someone wants to get one of these namco moto-gp games. Can you still buy the v2 or 3 that you like? And do you need some kind of game machine to play it on, or does it work on your PC? (OK - that "someone" would be me, and I've never owned any of the this gaming stuff before).

EBgames has used ones in stock for cheap, Playstation2 version from Namco...

And the console itself for cheap as well...

I'm sure there's deals to be had on craiglist or eBay as well. Sony close to 100 million of them after all.

There are some older Superbike series games for the PC, they were quite good actually, but quite a bit more difficult to get into and get set up properly and needed a pretty high end system to run... i ended up using a steering wheel on the PC, which was kinda weird to control a bike with but worked better than a flight-sim style joystick.

100% I am not bashing but I think guys that run TT just as TT comes may like it but if you ride a bike for real you will like moto go better. Take Moto Gp and put the simulation so the bike slide's and it is really realistic... NOTHING about TT is realalistic NOTHING... is sucks.. YES the tracks are better... BUt the bike suck.. SO lay a cool track out on front of me and give me a pice of shit bike an dI will watch other ride... I do not mind riding a piece of shit persay but a piece of shit that "handles" like a piece of shit is a just plain a "PIECE of SHIT" So David is right and I am right... Sorry... I will race any of you on both games and I bet I will get my ass handed to me on TT cuz I suck cuz it sucks.. But on GP Let's get it on... It will at least be like a real race well sorta anywa, but for sure a good fun deal... for all involved... I have a buddy that was playing moto go at my home and he was aying man this game is soo much fun and he had the back end sticking cuz simulation was not on the right deal... I put it to mak ethe rear end slide he could not believe the dynamics to it at that point... I think maybe you all are just not running handicap off and simulation on... Do it and love it.. RIGHT NOW... :) Then come back and tell Dave and I how it rocks... -Craig

Gp is fun but i feel like tt is a better simulator of real riding you just need to take all of the handicaps off, with the handicaps on i agree it sucks.

See we are working it out here. David, JVIadJVIike and Seesm all agree now!! Just a few of you tt straglers that need to try...

not to rub the stuff in but i played the tt game today with my kids and my 7 yr old said this sucks the way the does not turn like a real bike... I almost died laughing!! BUT the graphics are SUPER sick..
