Video games for race/track training?

How sick is it when you slide to steer and it is perfect and it does not flick you off like a booger? :)

Oh yeah!! And on longer turns you can keep it sliding and countersteer to keep it going for a pretty good drift. Although it bucks you hard if you overdo it.

Agree w/ NoQuarter and Seesm...TT is nice and pretty, and the track modeling is realistic by itself (as far as I could tell from Laguna and Infineon at least), but when you throw in the bike physics, very little seems applicable to riding those tracks (in real life) any more.

I must be missing something about the MotoGP game on the XBox 360... the bike would barely stay on the track, the rear brake slowed the bike more than the front did, and I needed to basically lock up the rear brake and slide around every turn. Oh, and it looks ridiculous to see the rider hanging off the bike at 5mph...

:wtf

Yeah I haven't played the older MotoGP games, maybe that's what you guys are talking about. But MotoGP '06 for Xbox360 is ridiculous. I was impossible to even stay on the track. I still think that TT is the best simulation of motorcycle riding. The physics may be a little flawed, but they are better than anything else out there.

Sounds like the xbox 360 must suck too the ps2 rocks silly and it is one of those things that people that know just know.. If you think the tt game is more realistic you must not know what realistic riding is or is not... Not being a dick but yeah I guess I am... I tried the tt game again with my kids.. I just think it is not that bad .. it just really is not THAT GOOD... I hear the new ps3 version is a fair bit different.. My buddy works at Rainbow Studios (makers of MX unleashed deal..) Which btw my companies logo is again in now for the 3rd year... But he said a sister studio did the new moto gp and it is pretty good.. Have not tried it yet...

Tourist Trophy bar none. Set settings to semi-pro or all-pro (no aids what so ever) everything is analog!

Is Tourist Trophy as good as the real thing, come on guys thats a silly comparison.
As for a video game it's greatest (so far).

I keep saying it.... I have em both and tt sucks ass.... The new ps sucks too not as bad as tt sucks... but ps2 with moto gp 1-3 rocks silly... You must not have anything but tt to say this...

MoTo GP 07' for the X-360 Rocks!!!! add me if ya want to battle :thumbup. Gamertag- WFO 00 :twofinger.

Anyone using video games as a training aid? What game are you using? How are you using it/what are you using it for?

Let's assume you know your way around a given track (say, Infineon), so you don't really need to use the video game to familiarize yourself with the track (I don't even know if there *is* a video game for Infineon). Is there anything else it helps you learn?

No. You can realistically only learn your way around the track. Does not help figuring out which gear you should be in for a particular turn, etc....

Sony's Tourist Trophy game does have Sears Point and Laguna Seca tracks in there.

Pretty good representation of the two tracks and you can "learn" your way around the track, ie: connect the turns, T1 is a fast left up the hill into T2 which is a blind right continuing uphill....blah blah - (Sears is in the car configuration (older T1 and T11, and no bus stop) if I remember correctly).

It doesn't really give you a sense of off/on camber turns or variable track conditions, tire wear, etc.

I would agree that the Sony GT/TT have the most realistic tracks, especially because they model the roughness of certain track sections very well.

However, I disagree that TT has good riding physics. The way you can front brake into turns without washing out the front is ridiculous. Also, the way your line widens and tightens with midcorner throttle or midcorner braking (yikes!) is unrealistic.

That said, TT is the best motorcycle simulator I've played. It's just that no one has done a really good motorcycle simulator yet.

I prefer to play GT because the car physics is so good, and the tracks are mostly the same as TT. GT is probably just as good as TT for learning how to pick lines and make clean passes in traffic, even if you are applying it to riding motos.

And since no one has said it, there is a real inexpensive driving simulator called Toca Race Driver for the Xbox and PS2.:thumbup It is way underrated. It's even more unforgiving than GT4, since you can wreck your engine and passing is much harder. Also, I like the driving physics in Toca much better than Forza Motorsport, and they might be even better than the GT games.

Just an FYI, there are TWO MotoGP games, one developed by THQ for most platforms -> XBOX360, PS2, etc, and another by Namco ONLY for PS2/PSP. The Namco one was designed to be more of a simulation while the THQ one was meant to be more of an arcade style game.

The More You Know!

My wife has offered to buy me a video game system for Christmas so that at least I can pretend I'm at the race track.
I know a lot of racers play them and use the excuse that its good practice. Any truth to that? And which system has the best racing games?
I need all the help I can get so any practice would be better than just sitting in my shop dreaming about it.:teeth

The best race simulator ever made, for four wheels, that is, is GTR 2. But it's not a console game.

Motogp 07 in Championship mode on Legend difficulty is pretty hard to play. The physics are different than Career mode for some reason. The most FUN by far.

Tourist Trophy - worst game ever invented.. the end. POS game engine based on a POS driving game engine. didn't they work it off Gran Turismo 4? crap...next.

Suzuki TT..probably the most realistic, except you only get to race at Isle of Mann...so the game is practically useless unless you can memorize a 15 minute lap. what a waste of a good game engine

Motogp series on Ps2...ignore all the sliding and the game is actually pretty challenging. Really shows you to get on the throttle as early as possible. Just pretend the bikes aren't sliding and the game is much better.

+1 on the different game mode, makes a big diff.
