This video shows a search warrant served by the Columbia Mo. police department. The cops bust in this guys house in the middle of the night and shoot his two dogs (one a pit bull that was caged in the kitchen and the other a Corgi) with children in the home. it turns out that rather than a big time drug dealer, this guy had a small pipe with some resin in it, a grinder, and what the cops here call "a small amount of marijuana" (meaning less than a few grams). We here in Comlumbia want everyone to know what kind of police department we have here, check out our "finest" in action.

Absolutely sickening. 100-150 of these raids happen everyday in the U.S.

The police department seemed to be very efficient and safe in their search. Perhaps the real issue is not the SWAT teams performance... Perhaps the issue is with the way the warrant was issued..?

No shit Sherlock!

The problem is the militarization of our domestic police agencies across the nation, and subsequently the tyrannical actions they take to 'problems' like this one.

Police = para-military. SWAT is even more militaristic than the regular beat cop. This is nothing new.

What happened here, shooting a caged animal if indeed it was since the video never shows the animal, was a complete lack of discipline and leadership.

Again... I'm less concerned about the tools available to law enforcement, and more concerned about the way those tools are employed. The SWAT have a valid purpose, and I'm glad they are available. Do you think this would have gone differently had the regular police performed the raid?

What's the problem? They're "only following orders".

:|

....must buy more ammo...

I disagree.

Trick question, because my answer would be yes; so far as the regular police department did not conduct such a forceful raid. Could this situation have been handled via a traffic stop? During the daytime while the kid is at school? Knock and talk? Attempt at negotiable entry while serving warrant? Not a no-knock raid?

They made their presence known loudly and clearly more than once before forcing open the door. :|

Shit like this breeds an "us & them" mentality. I see this and I think, "fuck the police". I know they're the good guys, but this is fucking out of control. Like a corgi is a threat to anything.

I don't know where you've been in the last 30+ years, but every textbook and every instructor I've faced has echoed my exact statement.

What are you even trying to argue?

What is 'new' to you? 10-20 years? Yes, SWAT was created in 1968...relatively 'new' in my opinion. The point is that our police forces are overstepping their bounds, they are tyrannical. The militarization of our police goes against everything this country was based upon.

we give iraqi's more time to open the door and come out then they did.
as far as what you said about that team being efficent. no, no not by any means. i don't know what your level of cqb proficiency is, but they did not communicate well, they did not move well, or organized.

Again, if they had a court order to perform the raid, the officers did not overstep their bounds.

Are you crazy? So what should they do? Are you a proponent of reactive-based policing? You think regardless of how harden crime and criminals become we should just settle with Barney Fife-esqe officers? Regardless of what this particular individual's crime was, all felony search warrants are served the same way. You can't just pick and choose how you're going to enforce the law. It's one standard. Does this suck for the people that are innocent? Absolutely. However they'll have their day in court to settle their grievance with the department. Like I said, the shooting of the dogs was most likely uncalled for and shows a severe lack of discipline and leadership, but that's not characteristic for the majority of SWAT teams or regular police officers.

No info on what the warrant was for, or the intel provided to the police before the raid.

Should the dogs have been shot? I did not see a need for it in the video.

Now your just grabbing at straws...:laughing

Let's watch the video again and analyze that statement:

First knock/announcement: @ 00:31 seconds in.

"Kick it open" & Entry: @ 00:41 seconds.

That leaves Mr. Whitworth approximately ten seconds to: Wake up, identify noise, get out of bed, reach the front door or stop moving.

GET REAL.

Straight over your head, dude.

Bottom line, they used may too much force than was called for in that particular situation. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
