Vintage Helmet, where to find?

I am trying to locate store that sell "vintage" looking helmets like those, but it seems like most bike shops only carry full-faces or rather plain looking ones.

Although I can find some online, I'd like to test it with my own head.

Does anyone know any places that carry them?

Yeah......try a garage sale!! May I suggest......before you "test" it.....make sure you have a last will and testament filled out. I'll be keeping an eye out for your name to show up on the Darwin Awards list.......

At the last Sacramento (Easyriders) custom bike show I attended (last year...?), there was a vendor there that resores vintage helmets- custom paint (mild to wild), new padding, and a variety of custom 'interiors'. They have a stock of them, or you can send them an old Bell Star, or whatever you have. While they aren't up to current DOT standards, it could be just the thing. I have an old Bell (DOT legal in 1970! :teeth) that I'd like to get refurbished.

Now the kicker- I don't remember what this place is called!:mad I want to say they're in Bakersfield or similar, but could be wrong. They ARE in CA, though.

Ever see what someone looks like after a crash with an open face helmet. Sacrificing safety for fashion is not a good idea.

And WTF!, refurbished antique helmets? Why don't you just cut down some styrofoam and do it yourself. Geez, what a terrible idea.

It's a damned good thing we're in America, then! If we were in various other countries, they could MAKE you buy one.:|

:rolleyes

Devo said it back in the '70s-- Use your Freedom of Choice!:twofinger

I'd like to have my old Bell restored since it's my dad's. He'd get a kick out of it, too. I promise not to wear it, though, since it seems to bother you so much!:twofinger:twofinger

Nothing wrong with keeping an old hemlet or having/obtaining one for nostalgia's sake. But geez, I wouldn't trust one of those things to protect me, if my life depended on it. Oh, wait, it does. Get on, refurbish one, but put it on the shelf and admire it. You can't see what you look like when you're riding anyway.

Seriously. If you care what you look like, rock one of these:

It provides just about the same protection too!:thumbup

Check the disclaimer:

Note: This helmet is a novelty helmet. Although our high-quality novelty helmets do contain high-density impact foam and padding, they do not contain enough foam to conform to DOT standards due to the low-profile, close-fitting style. This helmet is not DOT approved.
