Want to see a police cruiser run over a man?

Question for Rel: In a situation like this does an officer have to get clearance to pull a move like that? And whos responsible for reimbursing the home owner for damage to his vehicle and wall?

I like how the office calls the guy attempting to point the gunman out a dumbass lol way to build trust in the community.

Fair enough..... so how would you stop this guy? Keeping in mind that everyone is going to question your actions, and you'll be tried in the media long before you go to an actual jury trial.

He is a known shooter aka active shooter. Isn't protocol to shoot him? I would try to use a taser and then if needed use a gun. I don't see any need to run him over with a car. That was some seriously dangerous stuff.

.....Since when is running someone the fuck over standard protocol. Cop should be brought up on charges imo. Yes something needed to be done, no that wasn't the thing that needed to be done. Imagine if that cop lost control of his car and killed someone or that car went into the air and crashed into a house killing a family. It was a clear case of overreaction and very stupid. This guy is policing the community that you may live in. Do you really want someone like that "protecting" you?
But he didn't run him over, and none of that other stuff happened. He bumped the guy with his fender, intentionally, to knock him down. He seemed to have planned his maneuver pretty well and even smashed into a wall to pull it off.

This beats the crap out of shooting the suspect, or trying to disarm him, where the results would probably be death for someone, anyway.

I would need to get permission to do that, but I dont know that departments policies. As for the damage, I'm sure the city will pay for that.

There is never a protocol to shoot someone. That is a last resort. We never bring a taser to a gun fight. Tasers only work up to 25 feet, if that.... so why would I want to get that close to someone with a gun?

Think of the car as a gun, its the same force option. Also, he has better chance to survive the car hit than a gun shot.

Let me get this straight;

You would;
a) arrive in a car
b) get out of the car
c) chase/ engage the armed person

Did I get that right ?

I would've approached in the car, slid it around and roasted him with the flame throwers.

I wonder how the public/media would have responded if the guy would have died, especially with all the negative publicity cops have been getting on the news lately.

See below....

I'm late to the game. When this first came out there was no mention of the suspect shooting the gun into the air and going on a crime spree. Please disregard my empathy comments. I was under the impression he was suicidal and seeking attention. He is a known criminal, I just don't agree with the car part of this.

Like this? ^^ People jumping to conclusions?

Nobody died. The Officer did the right thing. He could of maybe run him over a little friendlier. In the long run, nobody misses a dead asshole.

Taze a guy with a gun? Hilarious.

Thank goodness one of them finally did what I say every time I see this kind of pursuit.
Run that lethal threat down like a bull does a drunken matador. :applause

Excessive force? GTFO. Dude was running down the street shooting at will.

Would have been sweet if two kids were playing in a sandbox just on the other side of that wall.
