Want to tour Golden Gate Park. Is it safe?

Going up? Sure you can say that, and it's not wrong, but some stats are half what they were in 2020 (janurary), and 2020 was half what was in 2017 and 2018.

Don't believe the hype is all I'm saying.

Same as it ever was, but trendy to report on right now.

.

Trendy? Shit happens, the news reports it. They send a guy up to see an area that is getting noted for crime and he gets robbed. Not burgled, robbed. There is an important difference because of the potential for loss of life.

It's a mental contortion to consider it a trend. At the most basic level, things happen and they become news. At times, life is not that abstract.

And as far as ranking cities, you don't live there, you live here. When shit happens here, it affects us. The peculiar crime of robbing news crews has been going on for a while, but this was perhaps the most brazen because there were so many people about. Watching people be getting robbed and brutalized is sort of like going to a sideshow anymore. We wouldn't have all those smartphone videos if there weren't people around. When you add in the attacks on Asian people, there is definitely something changing around here. It's seems obvious but I will say it: since the pandemic hit and caused sudden drops in traffic, tourism and life in general, a person has to wonder what comes next, and how its reflected in terms of personal and public safety. So we are perhaps a bit more tuned it, if that can possibly explain a difference in perception....

I love how folks who don't live here are experts.

Yes, it feels like crime is rampant. I think it's getting reported more, and Narcsdoor app has me fucking paranoid that my garage is going to get broken into.

The reality according to the SFGOV Violent Crime Rate and Property Crime Rate shows a different story. All my conservative friends, and Narsdoor posters blame the city attorney, but I think the cops all hate him for his policy's so I would think they would want the numbers to show as high as possible to make him look bad, but 2017-18 were much worse.

https://sfgov.org/scorecards/public-safety/violent-crime-rate-and-property-crime-rate

It's good for clicks and views to show bad things, don't we all know that already?

SF haters are gonna hate..

Snipped for Political Content

A little reality check for the "OMG, SF is the most crime ridden City not only in the US but nearly in the World" seems to be warranted.

That kind of attitude doesn't reflect reality it reflects the news they are being fed.

SF is 22 on this list for property crime though, with six other California cities ahead of it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_crime_rate

No, dude, SF is number 4 on that list for property crime, which is what I always tell people. SF is one of the worst there is for property crime, largely due to downtown's semi-permanent status as a free range hobo Zoo. Only Albuquerque, Spokane, and Memphis are worse. However, violent attacks just aren't really a thing in SF. It is 100% SF policy to deport all violent criminals to the East Bay.

SF is a wildlife preserve for thieves and dopefiends and violent predators are disruptive to the natural habitat of that preserve.

You are correct, my mistake.

But to the OP, SF is quite safe as it relates to crime on your person but not so safe for your stuff.

I use the Sena that came with a helmet I bought on Craigslist only for Google Maps to get directions while riding but not for music. I did try listening to music while riding but it’s too distracting and I almost got into an accident.

So are you going to be riding your motorcycle to the park? I thought you didn't have one.

Share some pics of the bike you decided on, man. You've been excited for a long time about getting on two wheels.

Dirty Mike and The Boys will run a Soup Kitchen on your Cell Phone if you set it down for a second. Just assume anything you are not physically present to watch is going to have a Soup Kitchen run on it. They will have one in your backpack, all over your car, on top of your shoes while you are wearing them if you look the other way too long and stand still. Anything and everything will be covered in dripping fluids of horror, and if you touch anything outside, it is covered in hepatitis, so wear gloves.

Once they are done and your property is soaked in enough Soup Kitchen Discharge, the local dopefiends will try to help you by removing your property to recycle into the free range hobo economy, assuming you do not want property anymore that is covered in Soup Kitchen discharge. It is a very efficient system and observing the local ecosystem from a unit above ground floor is fascinating.

You will not be beaten, stabbed, or shot though.

Oakland thugs would be deeply offended if they ever got outdone, in the violent crime realm, by San Francisco.

LOL, it is not possible. Once you become a career violent criminal, you get sent to the East Bay, your SF privileges get revoked. Oakland is San Francisco's Septic Tank. :dunno

To be fair, I don't think the people doing a large chunk of SF property crime are native San Franciscans.

Highway 80 is a conduit, from Sacto to SF. Crime can go in any direction. Mebbe the vaunted thugs hate driving in SF as much as I do, I dunno.

But I do enjoy Eldritch's color comments on these activities....

Native San Franciscans are just not really much of a thing anymore.

We should do a double decker bus tour around the City and I will narrate, that shit would be hilarious.

TBF, I don't think that the majority of current SF residents are native San Franciscans. :twofinger :laughing

True story.

My daughter something like 12 years ago went to SF Pride week with her friend.

Some kids were dancing on the sidewalk while they waited for a light to change.

Then the kids jumped on her car severely denting the hood, roof and trunk.

That essentially made it so that EVERY SINGLE BODY PANEL on that Civic had been touched by a body shop at some point in its life!

Better yet, get a group together on Segue's and cruise around the city with the commentary.

My brother and I did a Segue tour once when he was out visiting, turned out to be a great way to see San Francisco.

I fell like your vision for this involves less alcohol than mine does?

SF really needs to do something about this rampant crime.

News like this makes law abiding citizens more afraid and criminals more brave to commit more crime because there are no consequences for them.

Absolutely. "SF needs to".
I'm glad that Sunnyvale is there to tell SF to do it.

That's the "Burnet Gate" approach to Twin Peaks. There used to be a cop parked there but there isn't one now. The gate is closed (The road up is closed.)

I love it how "the neighbor" in this video, tells us precisely the gun used but does not tell us what "white luxury sedan" was it exactly. :rolleyes Oh and I love his mention that "SFMTA" is the reason for this. : |
* SFMTA is responsible for streets, buses, etc, and closing that gate to Twin Peaks-- and the neighbor is probably pissed because of the closing and the reopening plan here. * Oh wait. He definitely is pissed because he says it's in this article: the crime happened because the SFMTA closed the street in front of his house.. :facepalm (instead of it happening elsewhere I suppose)

I might be bored for some parts of it but feels like it's something that should be done, I'm in.
