Warning: motowrx is shady

Im not sure if its the same people

BUT...... A few years back, there was a guy who bought a bike from me who came and picked it up in a van. I dont remember the name but he was blond, a little heavy set, and had a scar on the back of his neck from a "motocross" accident. I had another bike that needed some work on the suspension, and also needed wheel laced and trued. I gave him a good deal on the bike on the trade that he would lace the wheel and pay for the spokes. A week later I wrote him, and he said to be patient, the spokes were on the way. A month later I wrote him back really kind of upset, and got no response. I am pretty sure it was MOTOWRX on the business card he gave me, but I hope I am wrong. Can anyone tell me if one of the guys is blond and has a scar on the back of his neck?

jeez and i thought KC engineerings was bad.

no wait.... they are bad! they put my tire on backwards :laughing

Oh that brought back some horrible memories. Those guys at KC destroyed a set of wheels on my old F4 years back. I think the mechanic who worked on my bike was on crack, seriously.

To the original poster, if that was an on-the-bike job (i.e., they had to take your wheels off), which is what I thought you said, $150 is only slightly higher than the going rate. I've called around and the cheapest I've been able to get a tire change without the wheels off the bike is $125.

This does not sound like a bad shop - just one miscommunication.

It isn't miscommunication if the service was to mount new tires on the bike. I have had dozens of tires put on wheels, some on bike, some off bike.

The closest to $75 a wheel I have paid was in Alaska.

The OP is not saying the service was bad, just the price was out of line. I agree with him.

This is where I found it interesting..

It didn't get personal until you started challenging my intelligence.

It was personal in YOUR first post, you calling them *clowns* etc. Meanwhile.. no where in the FIRST post did you say they challenged your intelligence, just that you did not want to push the issue. This is classic ranting form, you try to justify your personal attacks, but somehow forget that people can actually look back and know you are full of it.. because if he DID insult your intelligence first.. you certainly would have included that fact in your original post. Sometimes this is called, *trying to change the facts to justify yourself*.

I have found over the years that people insecure with their intelligence (or themselves in general) will make comments like:

You don't wanna compare intelligence with me, buddy

And then in more classic message board escalating to try inflict as much damage as they can on their target, whether or not any of it is actually true, chances are that this is not true.

Just now found out that my back wheel is badly misaligned. No wonder my tires have been getting so eaten up from minimal riding. Of course, Andy would figure that out if he took the time to realize he put the piece with the alignment marks backwards when he put the wheel back on. Marks go on the outside, Andy, or did you do that purposely so you can sell me a new set of tires.

And for those who think you know the situation, you weren't there. I know what I heard, shady or not it was fucked up.

And I have never had work done there, I have only been in their store twice, I purchased my pants there last December, and also a set of plugs recently... I have no idea who was at the counter, but he seemed like a nice enough chap.

My ONLY complaint I have in the world atm.. is that Gixxergirl1000 has not replied to my PM and I am a SAAAAAD PANDA! :laughing

Well, hell, after reading through this thread it looks like we've got a lot of good shops in the bay area, including motowrx. :laughing

Not what the OP intended, probably, but hey, it's all gravy :teeth

Nope... Nobody I know of from Motowrx is blond, heavyset and has a scar on the back of his neck. :|

About 6 months too late for this thread...but why did it turn a discussion about shop rates ?

GET A WRITTEN ESTIMATE FOLKS ...

If you don't have a written estimate from the shop, and you go back and the price is different. Give them a chance. Try to reason with them. If they don't listen, then DON'T PAY. You'll threaten to contact the BAR and they'll try to settle with you afterwards, but just don't pay. You gave them the chance already. Some shops take advantage of people if they think they can. BTW OTD cyclesports in Burlingame does mount/balance on the bike with disposal for 90 bucks.

I lose at the internets.. I did not notice this thread was that old :(, just read it since it was on the front page.

They should have verified that you were willing to pay more than $75 for the job before actually starting on it. However, I'm willing to bet that book time to remove both wheels then mount and balance tires is probably around 2 hours. Book time is not how long it takes you to do the work, or how long you think it should take. However, you have every reason to be upset since they did not update your estimate.

learn to do the work yourself, then take just the wheels into the store. for 150, you could've bought a front and rear stand set, as well as tire mounting and balance.

Someone kill this thread, please... the title makes me want to cry.
