Weaverville HoHo Outlaw Mendo Grand Tour, 2020

a brief coda:

after this trip in July the August Complex Fire descended on the Mendo NF and the area around Anthony Peak, so I've been worried about whether the old wooden watchtower had survived ...

my friend 23103a--from ADVrider.com--was up there the first week in December, and got this wonderful drone pic of one of my favorite places in the world, still intact! :thumbup

looking forward to two wheel tramp's BARF HoHo Weaverville Rally in 2021 ... just gotta do another top-end on one of my several KLRs this winter. :facepalm

thanks to Mr 23103a for the pic ... here's a link to one of his posts with some
pics that show a bit of the fire damage on Anthony Peak and around the Mendocino Pass/FH-7 area ...
the bottom pic in the link is Anthony Peak, and if you look closely you can just make out the watchtower
and see just how close the fires got to it. :ride

Glad your little spot of heaven survived. I've seen you after you've arrived back at the 49r after your trip to the mountain and it's a shame everyone can't have the same drug.

that's me, stone cold sober and high as hell ... :toothless

raging tinnitus and humming Grateful Dead tunes
inside my helmet to myself
for a couple hundred fireroad/KLR miles,
or returning to the 49er after a 4:30am ksu,
gives me a happy glazed look, I'm sure ... :laughing

think all us motorcycle people recognize that feeling. you airplane guys and sailboat and bicycle people, too probably.

looking forward to enjoying another of your steak dinners, soon, brother ... :gsxrgrl

Great news John. Lance, Scott & I stopped to visit there, on a Stonybarf day ride. Special place. It was your recommendation to check it out. I would like to camp there one day.

be great to see you up on Anthony Peak for an overnight ... have met oobus and HeatXfer up there in years gone by.

It’ll be Carrizo time pretty soon. Fingers crossed for a group campout there.
 
CA-Cincinnatus turned me onto this thread and he's talked quite a bit about this ride... hopefully there are plans for a ride to these parts in the coming year. I want in!
