Ok so I have decided to get a cowboy hat. A cursory search on the Internet did not result in anything substantial. Now that the summer is here I want a cowboy hat. Yeehaw!

Seriously, I want a cowboy hat. Any recommendations?

There's a cowboy store in El Cerrito on San Pablo: lots of hats.

Thank you MizCoop. Can I roam around NYC in that hat? or will people throw rotten eggs at me :confused

Sure, you can.... they won't throw eggs (point and laugh maybe).

:teeth

What you should do is come in January, usually the second week or so. That's when the PBR is in town... lots of cowboys roaming about!

:thumbup

January in NY is too cold for my SoCal taste :( I am going through the various hats on resistol website. Which one would be most practical? Which one would a real cowboy wear? I reckon all the straw hats are out of the equation, no?

Yeah, don't go with a straw one - definitely felt.

The wool ones are good... I think the beaver ones are the ones that "real" cowboys wear.

They have a link to their online vendors... browse through their selections. I am partial to the simple black felt ones. But they have a ton of varieties.

The other option is to meet me and my friend in Nashville one weekend... it's such a fun town, and they have a lot of shops that sell hats... and boots... and belt buckles...

Wouldn't the wool one feel really hot under the mid-day summer sun? I like the color of the black ones but won't they overheat my noggin in the sun?

Funny you mention Nashville. I was in Georgia a month ago near Tennessee border and thought about going over to Nashville but a local persuaded me to go tour the Civil war battlefields instead.

Yeah, I guess they can get hot. Although most cowboys live in warm climates... so I don't know, maybe they breathe or something? The light ones are nice too... I'm just partial to black (I do live in NYC after all).

:wow

Next time go to Nashville. It's my second favorite city in the US....

There's a western wear store across from Sun Valley Mall, directly opposite of the See's Candies shop on CoCo Blvd. in Concord. Plus I think a Boots Barn in Cordelia/Fairfield, right off of 80. And I think there's a western wear store in El Cerrito.

Anyway check out the hats on this site. Also Sierra Trading Post sells cowboy hats, including Stetsons and Resistols, at discount.

You really need to try them on. Fits one thing -- how you look is what counts.

Don't get one of those big ole Hoss Cartright 10 gal jobbers get the little Joe one.

Ok but only if you buy one too. We can then roam turn 8 area, yelling out Howdy's at them damn filthy Yuropeeans :toothless

Have been looking for the past one hour atvarious websites and found one that I like at a store in Scottsdale. I have to go there for fitting though. Still searching.

Thanks for the suggestion masameet.

It's gotta be black and if you're willing to fork out a decent amount for a hat, Stetsons are the shit, boy howdy.

there's a lot of cowboy stores here in modesto and the smaller surrounding towns.

A bunch of country boys down here

If you're near the city, Moira's boots in SF has a decent selection of cowboy gear. It's in the Mission.

If you order off the inter-web, make sure to have your head sized, but Shepler's is a good bet: http://www.sheplers.com

It's hard to believe i used to be a cowboy.

FMF has a pretty cool one. And, at least you won't look too Chuck Norris!
